You can't beat the clean, simple lines of a steel hardtail. My personal favourite is Farticus's Curtis, which is absolutely lovely. Any of the Stantons posted up here tend to be things of beauty. Mine aint too ugly, but not quite in the same league

[img] [/img]

Orange hardtails just look 'right'

This was posted at another forum, I've not seen as a nice looking bike since.

+1 for the Titchmarsh 29+ hardtail, that's luuurvely 😀

Just can't see the beauty in that Evil and whatever the black carbon bike with the yellow Mavics is up there.

Both just look like unremarkable far east catalogue frames to me. The Evil's actually quite clumsy looking.

Gotta be a hardtail anyway, surely. Maybe the PP Shan, if just for the paintjobs.

I'd vote for something like this... (unfortunately not mine!)

[img] [/img]

Classic brand, lovely lines, Ti, dirty, just looks like a mountain bike should.

This thread really does show how different we all are. A good 75% I'd be happy to see in a worst looker thread.

Also, why do so many people buy frames that are too small for them?

I'll be making a list of names from this to use on the next Orange FS bikes are horrid rotters thread.

mashiehood - I was just looking for a picture of that very bike. Not normally my bag at all. But some daft sod (hi Chipps) let me out on one last week. Since then I've been openly salivating over them, and wondering about armed robbery

Funny, I seem to have seen one almost exactly like that recently 😉

Good shout!

Downhill-sylee slack head angle, mudguards, steel frame and 200mm stem. What's not to like? 😛

According to the writing emblazoned on the top tube, down tube and chain stay, I reckon it might be an Antidote Lifeline 😉

A less flattering angle

I like the black SB66 they use in the Fox adverts. Can't find it though.

I have that one just without the fox forks.

What is going on with that bike? The rear mech is so long it could double as a kick stand. And hold on is that... *zooms in a bit* a triple chainset? I've not seen one of those in years.

I can't beleive how utterly gopping every single bike has been on this thread. The only one that comes close is the Ritchey on page 1.

Has no one noticed that all the full suss bikes look exactly the same? Tubes bent in the same places, just different angles and derivations of the same style of computer drawn graphics. Awful. And I include my own full suss in that as well.

No MTB in the last 10 years can ever be described as good looking.

Thanks for rectifying my lazy post Cokie. I agree the direct stem accentuates its 'bullish' qualities but am utterly in love mate. Have always loved/ridden hardtails but this lal minx turned me. Bikes with longer stems already look gawky to me.

@Jobro How much does it weigh? That is a very good looking Mtb indeed! The tyres/rims just need a little more colour and then it would be spot on 😀

Hmmmm, valve and tyre logos are aligned, fence doesn't need painting, and the hedge looks reasonably well trimmed....aha, I've got it: wheel of trailer looks a bit rusty 😈

Nice bike btw.

I can't comment to be honest, I posted an Orange Five 😆 !
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, etc. I think its the large stack height of the direct stem that offends me 😛

Yup, the slightly less angular but simple looking current-version 5 compares well with the more complex-looking sussers these days. All black always suited it.

The best looking bikes are simple. The best looking bikes of all are probably fixies due to their having no cables or levers, derailleurs etc. They are good looking and have become fashion items for that reason.

The reason top end full-sus bikes crop up, is that people can't distinguish between the 'want' instilled in them by marketing, and true aesthetic qualities.

But my bike is still the best...

That'll be those wicked "marketing people" again, manipulating poor Joe Public who can't make his own decisions, and forcing him to buy something he actually hates.

What a load of bollocks.

Blimey, everyone's a bit shirty today, and with being so close to Christmas I expected a bit more cheer!

I think I make a reasonable point. Do the latest generation Crossmax look much better than older generations ones. I think you'd be hard pushed to justify it. However, I bet in a poll, people would definitely say the newest generation look better. Perhaps it's not entirely marketing, but people are drawn to new technology.

In my opinion that draw to technology doesn't count as good aesthetics. This is a thread about what looks good, not what is desirable. All I was trying to point out what that a large number of the choices seem to be what people want, rather than what looks good.

Someone back me up....?

Totally agree. From a purely aesthetic point of view rigid singlespeeds look better.

It wouldn't make me ride one though.

Can people stop posting fat bikes and 29ers in anything smaller than XL please.

And SB66s, nice bikes but the angle of the shock in comparison to the top tube when viewed side on sorts of wrong.

Any day of the week. It's not because I know they will be better to ride, or because mr Cruz or Mr Stanton has told me to. I just prefer it.
Some people prefer Lamborghinis to E types and vice versa. It's not a lack of understanding or market conditioning, it's personal taste.

The Curtis in the third pic is ace - everywhere you look the build looks as if it's all been carefully considered.
