apologies for being somewhat lazy re research / reading of previous threads /watching youtube vids etc but I'm new to tubeless and would like to convert some surly rims ( drilled large Marge and rabbit holes ) to run as tubeless. Really wanted to ask those in the know what's currently considered the best/most reliable/easiest method . There is so much info out there some using rim strips then gorilla tape then split tube + thin layers of foam etc.
What's really necessary ? I presume split tube is heavier and all the options run best with some sealant.
i would appreciate your advice..tips and tricks as i'd like to do it right first time ! I have an airshot for seating btw.
thanks for your time
Bill
On my fatbike, I used gorilla tape sticky side out then sticky side in, then a split tube.
Works faultlessly.
Just used a section from a really cheap yoga mat to fill the recess in the rim, split baby fat tube and sealant.
Probably not a great weight saving but has not let me down (yet!)
I've got some 24x4 tubes (new) for sale if you want to try split tube
Split tube all way through.
Both on fat - BR710 - and 29+ - Rabbit Hole.

Cheers!

this on my dt swiss 2250 and didnt take to long 🙂
On "normal rims" I have had two split tube set ups.
Both have been faultless from a sealing and reliability point of view.
On a narrow rim the tube can make the bead seat narrower still. A 2.3 tyre on an old school internal diameter 17mm rim is pushing it.
29+ Rabbit Holes tubeless here for about 2 years with just Gorilla tape. No probs at all.
Used 3 layers - first sticky side in to cover the cutouts, and then inner layers the other way around.
