I have a bb30 chainset and bottom bracket on my cannondale road bike but have been told they are not very good and it would be better to put a normal shimano set up in there . Is this true and easy to do ?

many thanks

Rich

That's bollox!!

Cannondale invented this standard and on a road bike it's just fine.

Mine has been running sweetly for six years now without any servicing or degradation in performance.

The bike has been ridden all year round in all weathers.

Not to mention that BB30 is a not insignificant weight saving over a standard shimano BB.

You could convert your with a shim but there's absolutely no point.

My Cannondale had to have new bearings fitted in its BB30 after 8 months.

there was a spate of BB30 failuers in some models ... back to the dealer
and warranty repair. Other than that stick with BB30 🙂

The bearings are prone to failure (especially if you ride in v grim conditions but I'm guessing your racing or more xc biased?)
Despite that its pointless to swap you' have to be replacing 1/2 a dozen a year before it would be worthwhile so the suggestion you've received is at best nonsense....

Even if they did fail you could fit the new angular contact bearings from E13 or Enduro which are better sealed an a more appropriate bearing application then those typically used in Shimano style external BB's
