Am i being stupid but they are the same thing are they not?

So will i be able to use some Sram red cranks with a Chris King BB???

If you fit the appropriate adaptor yes.

No.

Hollowtech refers to the forging process for the cranks; BB30 is a bottom bracket standard. The two are not compatible, as Shimano don't make BB30 cranks. You can, however, use conventional external BB cranks in a BB30 frame with an adaptor.

Not if they are BB30 cranks; if they are GXP cranks, it will work provided you have the GXP-compatible BB (GXP axle is stepped unlinke Shimano/FSA/Race Face external BB cranks - [url= http://chrisking.com/bottombracket ]linky[/url])
