Baunei, on the east coast of Sardinia, is launching an "loyalty card" which gives discounts to mountain bikers and other outdoor sportspeople in hotels, B and B's and restaurants. The card is free! This is part of their drive to attract outdoor sports people, with a series of weekends in May dedicated to walking, climbing, mountain biking (the Municipality asked our association mountainbike ogliastra to organise the rides)...here's the poster [img] [/img]

For the event we have organised rides down to the famous "Cale" (beaches) with a lift back by boat, like this one
[img] [/img] which the founder of Italy's main mtb forum described as "A must, I have been riding in many places but to ride down to the sea like this is really something special” and we hope to finish cleaning an old shepherd's path with super-technical riding down to Porto Cuau with a lift back by boat. Practise your endo turns -;)

The link on our association's (cited in Lonely Planet Italy 2012, BTW!) site (in Italian) http://mountainbikeogliastra.it/index.php/evento-baunei-1920-maggio-2012/

ciao Peter

That looks great, can anyone put free ads on the forum, or have you got some special arrangement?

Slight hijack but Peter is there any decent roadbiking and/or easy stuff mtb wise? (mrs just had a bad wrist injury and is going to be only riding very easy stuff for few months yet...)

Actually anyone know if there is decent snorkelling anywhere in Sardinia?

Why is telling people somewhere a town's businesses are offering discounts to outdoor sports people a free ad? I/we aren't one of the businesses involved, we're simply the local not-for-profit mountainbike organisation who the comune asked to devise the MTB program and whose members pass their Sundays with pruning shears and chainsaws cleaning the paths....work the comune should do as you can read on p290 of the MTB guide for Sardinia see STW on http://singletrackworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/fresh-goods-155/

The bartender Sebastiano in this video of road biking

(yes there is good road biking) is one of the people who comes and cleans the trails with us on his days off, so, I suppose, this is a free ad for him. He doesn't even ride, and does this since he's a good bloke.

ciao Peter
