Been plugging away at trying to get this cassette to work on my lads bike....
With the recommended (by Sunrace) XT SGS I got this result (looking at mech from above):

Basically the chain hits the lever arm that the cable attaches to. Altering chain length and B screw doesn't stop it....
Today I tried running a brand new GX EAGLE mech with an 11spd sram shifter and 11spd chain...... it almost works. However, when adjusted it has issues at one end of the cassette.... adjust that.... then it has issues at the other end of the cassette. Nearest I got it to working I had a known issue (sure ive read it somewhere??) where the chain wont shift up from the second largest cog, to the third. Ie from 42 to 36. If I adjust the shifter barrel to allow it to upshift.... then the rest of the gears are thrown out.
Should add, only tried this setup with an sram 11spd chain.
So...... options left.
1) Try the GX Eagle mech with an 12spd chain. I really dont see this curing it but you never know, it is a 12spd mech after all but the cassette is 11spd obviously. Also the margins of error are tiny, the slightest change in barrel adjust/ B tension throws it all out. Im wondering if the cable pull the Eagle mech is designed for really is the same as the 11 speed sram mechs???
2) Got a GS SLX mech here to try with a shorter cage than the XT GS. Sunrace say it wont work, STW review say it might....
3) Dremel the XT mech so that poxy link arm doesn't cause a clearance issue and hope the indexing then works!
4) Dig out a shimano 11spd chain I have somewhere and try that. Grasping at straws though surely with this??
You know when you're at the point of wanting to tear your hair out?! lol
OK, can rule out option 4.... just the same with the shim 11spd chain.
Try a one up shark cage.
One of these may be what you're looking for
Is the chain length correct?
If the chain is too long I can imagine getting the the problem you’re describing
Or as above a cheap extender should do it
Tried different chain lengths but no appreciable difference. Apart from the clearance issue on the XT mech, most of the issues have been indexing problems...
Funny you guys mention the hanger extender above as i ordered one yesterday but as it's from China it will be a while to arrive...
I think the next step is to try the SLX medium cage just on the off chance it might work...
After that, it might be dremel time on the XT mech...
All else fails I will sell the cassette and my lad can make do with an 11-46 XT or such. 😉
I've got one fitted on my daughter's bike. Tried with a long cage XT mech and it wasn't interested shifting into the 50 whatever I tried. Fwiw the closest i got was by flipping the b screw. I lost my patience, bought an NX mech and shifter which works perfectly with very little adjustment when setting up.
Goat link would likely help.
The problem shifting at either end of the cassette will be a bent hanger. Not “bent”, but not aligned. Even new hangers don’t always sit square and straight.
The fouling I’d fix with a dremel.

Yeah, had wondered about that, got one on order from a couple of days ago but got an email from crc that it's delayed due to the weather... 😉
Why order a new hanger? That'll probably be bent as well. Or at least, once you fit it to the frame you'll need to align it.
Just align the one you've got.
You do have the tools/knowledge to align it don't you?
^^
The hanger isn't to replace the frame one mate but you extend the existing one.
Got a hanger alignment tool on the way to check the actual hanger but that's stuck in the snow somewhere at the moment.
So you haven't ordered a hanger from CRC then?
You've ordered an extender.
Good job you've ordered an alignment tool.
That should solve one of the issues.
If you can't get it to work that XT SGS mech deffo works with the Sunrace 11-46 cassette, I fitted that combo a couple of weeks back.
That mech also works with the 11-50. I ran it for a couple of weeks on a new 11 speed drive train on my Trigger just before selling it. No issues at all. I might have installed a goat link. Can’t remember. Just checked, no goat link. Just worked out the box..
Been running the 11-50 with an XT SGS for a good few months now.
It took a bit of messing about to get it to work on my frame as it initially struggled to get across to the 50 tooth. It was ok for clearance but it wouldn’t move inboard enough to shift the chain up from the 42.
Eventually got it working by removing the upper ‘link’ bit of the mech (not sure what it’s called) that normally screws into the hanger and instead attached the mech to the hanger using the lower bolt, with the hanger sitting in the gap where the link bit was. This moved it inboard enough but it still had enough clearance for the 50 and didn’t foul on the cassette. Been flawless since.
Not tinkered today as waiting for the dropout alignment tool to turn up to exclude one valuable.
Really odd one this. Currently trying the slx gs setup.... No clearance issues but the indexing is still off no matter how much I tinker.
It's also a right sob to get the chain to upshift from the 42 to 46....
Can't say I've ever had this many issues simply getting a cassette and mech all working nicely.
I hope it is a wonky dropout to be honest!
No help I realise but I had no problem fitting mine, xt mech, no alterations just tweeked the limits and b.
Was the xt a shadow + sgs mate, out of curiosity? 🙂
Surprised teh Eagle mech isnt coping as its made for 10 - 50 range, tried a longer B screw?
the eagle mech and 11 speed shifter combo will never index properly, the ratio are different. the confusion arises because sram say that you can use the 11 speed chain with eagle.
sram 10 and 11 speed components are interchangeable.

To be honest I can was going by the Stw techie where they ran the GX Eagle with the Sunrace saying the cable put was the same?
On another note.... The mech hanger was out of whack (the x tools derailleur hanger aligner turned up yesterday) and is now straightened.... Will see if that was the cause of all this messing around. 😉
Well, got the mech hanger checked and it's now nice and straight, it was a little out.
BUT THE FRIGGING INDEXING IS STILL FOR S!!
On to of that it still hates shifting from 42 to 36t!
About to lose my s with this cassette. Started imagining hitting it with a club hammer as i was still trying to get the indexing anywhere near acceptable.
Always a bad sign and so decided to leave it for today.
Thinking logically these are the components changed all to no effect:
3 rear mechs and associated shifters.
2 new chains, both sram and shim.
Inner gear cable.
So, the commonalities not yet changed/unable to change.........
Chain line obvs.
The f*** sunrace cassette!
The outer gear cable.
I think the next thing to do is change the outer gear cable in case it is crimped or something inside the frame.
If still no good I'll be ordering an slx 11- 46t and seeing if that works.
If not the whole * streaming pile of * is going in a vat of acid whilst I dance around it chanting druid like incantations.
If you do decide to give up on it I may have it off you, I’m a sucker for punishment
I might take you up on that.
I bleedin bet if someone else puts it on another bike all will be well. Have never had this problem before, most frustrating.
Strange! The 11 46 Sunrace I put on my bike very briefly worked fine. I took it off again as I didn’t have a chain long enough to run a 36 tooth on the front and cope with suspension travel. Also it looked massive.
This is the 50t but admittedly many people have it working fine.
I'm starting to take it personally. 😠 lol
Well it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that you have a duff one. I’ve had a few Sunrace 11 speed cassettes and they’ve been fine. I’ve also mix and matched a damaged 11 42 with an 11 40.
It's possible but I can't see anything visible to the eye.
I think shoving an slx 46t on might prove it one way or another. I'll change the cable outer first though as that is one of the few parts remaining that I haven't swapped out and it's cheap.lol
Try putting a very thin washer behind the cassette. I had to do something similar when putting a wide range cassette on my cyclocross bike.
It won't be a washer.
More likely a hammer!
Surely you have proved to yourself that it is the indexing that is out, not the ability to move the chain across the full width of the cassette? If that is the case then it must be the pull ratio of the shifter/mech combo?
You could try the old 9sp sram shifter with Shimano mech bodge of a washer under the cable clamp on the mech to marginally increase throw.
The thing is, it should all be compatible.
It's been tried with 2, 11spd setups to no avail, one sram, one shim.
Also tried the 12spd Eagle GX mech as it is supposed to work according to a few online articles....
I know it sounds like a daft and trivial issue to rectify and it should be. Apart from fork servicing I do all my own spannering and this would usually be a 20min tinker to get spot on...... however something is fundamentally wrong with the setup that I just can't pin down.
Going to try another cable outer, as although new, it is internally routed and could be "crimped" or such. Basically grabbing at straws.
If no luck there then it'll be an slx 11-46 purchase..... Which should definitively tell me if the issue is the cassette or not.
In total I've bought 2 mechs and 2 shifters trying to sort this proxy cassette out. It's embarrassing as i can imagine reading someone else making this thread and thinking, "idiot, how can he get this wrong?"😳 lol
GS XT mech is 39 capacity which is exactly what an 11-50 cassette is but its never ideal to max out the capacity in case a chain is not exactly the perfect length and if you have full suspension then you require a greater capacity.
I tired the sunrace 11-50 on my Aeris with the cheap fake goatlink above and a GS mech. I had absolutely no problem indexing at the large end of the cassette but couldnt get it to shift to the 11T. I then realised that the low chainstay pivot point by the dropout on the Bird was to blame as the mech was hitting it and wasnt able to fully move over. I didnt have that problem with the Sram 11-42 cassette previously fitted so I think it was the fake goalink putting the mech in just the wrong place.
I wasnt happy with maxing out the mech on a full suspension so picked up an SGS mech. before I fitted it I ended up getting Eagle GX instead so will save the sunrace and XT stuff for replacing the 3x10 on my solaris or an N+1 build.
Have you got the clutch on or off, since going to the sunrace 11-46 10spd smooth shifts aren't possible with the clutch on, turn it off and its completely different.
This is basically a problem with the geometry of the hanger. Mech hanger geometry can be very random, and usually the reason for things like this not working..
It's a combination of the distance of the m10 bolt hole down from the axle, the offset of that hole from the centre line of the bike, and the angle that the tab for the B screw. As long as the hanger is straight (check it and correct it in 2 planes, not just up and down) and the cable is defiinitely running free, then there's a few things to try:
1. For the distance of the bolt hole to the axle, I'd try a replacement upper link, like a goatlink. The cheap extension listed above might be too long and floppy and cause other issues.
2. For the offset of the bolt hole from the centre of the bike, try putting a 1-3 mm of M10 washers under the mech mounting bolt. This might give the lever arm enough room to swing, and additionally gets the pulley moved further away from the sprocket on the 50t. This is a really neat trick!
3. If the lever is fouling because the B screw can't come out enough to let the lever clear the cassette, then filing the tab on the hanger can help. Probably not in this case as you'll need the screw in for pulley clearance. It can increase the distance from the axle to the lower link bolt though, which is what you need.
I had similar problems with my new giant trance frame and an eagle mech. Turned out there is more than one mech hanger 'standard' and my frame had been supplied with a Shimano direct mount hanger which put the SRAM mech out of position. Ordered a replacement hanger from giant and the problem was solved.
Not sure if this is your problem but worth bearing in mind.
😉
Yep. It's the mech hanger. It's physically not standing the body of the mech far enough away from the cassette. You need to find a longer aftermarket one like a goat link or similar.
Thanks for all the help in this thread guys, genuinely.👍
Although I've end up with a small collection of mechs and shifters.... I'VE FINALLY SOLVED IT BY DOING WHAT I SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE! 😕
....Got a GS XT mech...... and it's working great, even with the clutch on!
There is a moral on all this.... It might be trust the STW reviewers for a start as they said use a shorter cage XT! Lol 😆
Anyway, my lads bike FINALLY ha working gears.... Just need to bleed the Guides now and it's pretty much done. 😃
