Had enough of my avid elixir brakes and going for a pair of slx stoppers. Will I need new rotors or can I use the old avoids. Cheers foaley
Rotors are broadly generic - you'll be fine not changing them.
Yes I have Avid rotors and SLX brakes, works just as good as SLX rotors do.
Rotors will be fine, it's the 160-180 post mount adaptor that's a problem as it relies on the CPS washers to take out the variation in the height of the posts, therefore if you have the above adaptor then swap it for another make. A 185 disk on a post mount fork / frame is an even bigger problem as no-one else does 185 PM-PM adaptors. If you have a 185 disk then swap it for a 180 and get a new mount.
Whyte hardtail, huge OTB on stage 2 practice at QECP enduro by any chance?
I had G3 avids in 180 and 160 with deores on shimano mounts. They were fine until the pads wore down to the last 3rd then I realised the pad overhung slightly causing massive vibrations. I have since changed to shimano discs and they contact 100%, the overhang was only a couple of mm if that.
Got 185mm Avid discs on my Deores. Stuck a spacer in the bracket to caliper and works perfectly.
Avid discs working fine for me in both Deore and XT brakes..
North Shore Billet make/made a post to post 185mm adapter..
works fine. but as above the "180" needs 2-3mm of washers to make it work as the avid rotors are 185mm and shimano 180.
