Any chance that someone could measure one of the spacers that you use when your bleeding avid breaks.
Don't have one, but can make one, just need to know the width...
Cheers
what spacer where?
sorry the one that you put inbetween the pistons to stop them moving when you bleed them.
Do you mean the red pad separator. 3.5 mm.ish
Annoying thing is that the spacer fits between the pads, which means if you don't have brand new pads you can't bleed accurately.
I always bleed with the wheels on and discs in place. Works perfectly for me.
my avid bleed kit came with a spacer which replaces both pads to prevent contamination. Can't measure it at the mo as it's out on loan, sorry.
Which brakes ? The bleed kit comes with about half a dozen different spacers although they all look fairly similar.
Let me know and I'll measure the right one.
Anybody know what the spacer width should be with/without pads? I'm a n00b trying to bleed my Juicy 5's for the first time and worried about contaminating my pads, so would prefer to take them out.Cheers!
Don't worry too much about the spacing when you're bleeding - hydraulic discs automatically adjust for pad wear so they will accommodate inaccuracies in pad spacing when you're bleeding. The main thing is to make sure that you don't force the pistons out (if you've got the pads out) or get fluid on the pads (if you've got the pads in).
Shimano brakes come with a yellow plastic block that's about 1cm thick to stick between the bare pistons; many others come with a spacer block that's about 4mm thick to wedge between the pads. If you don't have either, use a Lego brick for the former or a 2p wrapped in tape for the latter.
