I would suggest that most of the users of this forum are good at riding bikes, compared to the general population.

I'm better than i used to be, and pretty happy with that.

Far too sober, I'd say... ๐Ÿ™‚

In the driving rain yesterday without glasses I fell off 3 times on the cheeky behind Ladybower Inn.

All that matters to me is I have a scream and fall without injury

**** those that say they are good. Its for shits and giggles ๐Ÿ˜€

All round i'm ok. Not brilliant at any one thing, but can ride most stuff. After 15 years not riding and only just getting back into I've come to the conclusion I will never be amazing, but if I have fun and progress then i'm happy.

I still want to be able to pull decent whips, tables and be able to manual for about 5 seconds ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm yet to peak but it sometimes scares me to think how good I'll end up as I'm just so much better every time I go out.

I'm usually excellent, but for the past few years I've been awful. I was especially bad today, must be the heat.

I have fun on every ride, it can be windy, rain, snow or shine. I'm always enjoying myself. Sometimes I ride with people far less skilled than me, often I ride with people far more skilled. I try to ride with riders more skilled to put me in my place and give something to achieve and push myself. I see myself as average in the types of riding I do. If you feel you are good at your discipline maybe you should be trying something harder?

The good things in life are meant to be hard. I wouldn't be here if it were easy.

Nah Sola you are above average in my book, I am probably a fair bit bellow average (especially these days) I have certainly been quicker in the dim distant past, but I'm still riding so it's all still good fun...

If you all really want to "rank" yourselves go off of race positions... if you never compete then you'll never know, And if that doesn't worry you then great, you are a reasonably well adjusted human being...

Unfortunately, my ability is way behind my will to ride. I tend to fall off way too often and break bits of me or the bike.

I shouldn't be let loose on a bike.

But...

This year I have ridden a fraction of the mileage I rode last year and I have put on loads of weight.

I'll never win races, but it does keep me fit when I ride.

All I can say is that I feel faster than I look (seen myself looking really slow on a couple of video clips!), but love it anyway.

How often do you get passed per lap at Mayhem, say?

I dont race but I do ride competitively and I've never been overtaken at any trail centre I've ridden.

However I havent ridden my mtb for quite a while, might go for a lap of the North Face Trail later on tonight, see if I've still got the edge.

What on earth would that have to do with it?

Well if you are good, you'll be passed less and pass more yourself, surely?

Well I passed more people than I was passed by at Mayhem, but I have no idea what 'grade' of rider I am.

Quite good on climbs, reasonable pace and stamina, bit skittish on gnarly descents, healthy fear of Death.

I was pretty quick and fit when I was a courier, but there were still plenty out there who were silly fast.

Not bothered really; I have enough ability to allow me to enjoy the sort of riding I do, and that's all that matters to me.

Depends how you define good I suppose. To me being good on a bike implies technical ability, not just fitness.

I bet you could take someone who had barely ridden off road but was super-fit, and they'd do reasonably well at Mayhem (at least in the dry). Put the same person on the WC Downhill at Fort William and what would happen?

Compared to the average man in the street who never/rarely rides bikes I am a riding God.
Compared to Steve Peat I can barely ride a bike.
Campared to my mates (and I would imagine the wider mountian bike community) I am OK. I am fat and so struggle to go up hill quickly but I am not bad going downhill, certainly faster than most of my mates. However, put a jump in front of me and I suddenly become a rigid with fear and revert to uselessness.

This is like commuter racing, most of the people are not racing you.

Perhaps so, but its because they're lacking "the edge" and the natural fighting will and competitive instinct.

This comes completely naturally to me so I've got the upper hand straight away.

Erm.. not as good as I once was, for sure.
MTB
I love technical hills but i gas a lot and take my time, not bothered about downhills so no decender, love the tricky technical bits so ok at that particular aspect, likes fast singletrack so ok at progressive rolling speed switchback stuff.. Not good with heights..
Roadie
Still gas a lot on mountains (done a few of those fellas) so tend to dig a bit and admire the view through pulsing eyes.. with occasional outbursts of brilliance followed quickly by death. I'm a puncheur by heart so will go on a break to be crawled back in within 10k..

So, I'm above average then, just.

I'm pretty average, but I don't find it slows me down, in fact the quite opposite, which is where the trouble usually starts. No matter, I just love riding bikes!

I am distinctly average. How often do I get overtaken? Well soloing both SITS and Strathpuffer I was lapped while still on my first lap. ๐Ÿ˜ณ However I finished far from last with a respectable placing. (in the top bit of the bottom half)

Average! I'm only in my mid twentys but i was better 6 years ago and could keep a reasonable pace doing downhill runs in the alps.

Had a few accidents since and i'm only really just getting back into the more technical stuff, my drop offs etc are getting better but I'm only good for about a 3ft drop off at the moment.

But i love it so who cares ๐Ÿ™‚

Nope, I mince along at tourist pace, taking in the view, stopping continually to take photographs or to talk to cows / sheep / horses / birds.

If I had room in my saddle-bag I'd take sandwiches* and a small primus stove (or a flask) out with me (probably anyway), even if I was only out for an hour or two, but not if I was only popping to the shops tho'. That'd be silly.

I do like a good long winch uphill, but only after about an hour, when I've warmed up properly. Contrary to my normal tourist paced riding, I've found that lately, I've also become rather taken with fast town riding too in amongst all of the traffic (but not stupidly so - I rode mo'bike's everywhere for very many years, so I do have a solid sense of what'll work, and what end up in a wet squishy mess (to varying degrees), even allowing for the differences in braking / power).

*I don't actually eat sandwiches but you get the idea. ๐Ÿ™„

I reckon I'm a pretty decent rider. I've riding daily for years so fitness is good

At MTB races I usually finish in the top 20% - but I could certainly improve upon that if I bothered to train properly or actually buy a race bike. I lose most of my places on the climbs but get them back on the descents

Good technical rider - Can ride Stainburn double black well enough.

Shit at jumps - as I don't have the technique and don't wish to break owt!

I'm so good I actually overtook Liam Killeen some time ago. Granted he was standing still talking to someone at the time, but it still counts, doesn't it?
