I and my friends are constantly amazed by the (apparently) stoned twits on that site.
My mate sold some forks to someone on there for far more than they were worth to someone who wanted them cos they looked gnarr but were guaranteed to fold on the first dirtjump landing (Maverick SC32s for DJ - eh?!!)

Recently I placed a wanted ad for a 10 speed Sram cassette and rear mech (hoping to pick up some cheap kit from someone taking an unused geartrain off a new bike).
I had a reply.

Conversation goes thusly:

someotherbloke: ive got a x7 32 hole
me: is that a hub?
someotherbloke: yeh sure is mate
me: My ad says I need a cassette and a rear mech. Doesn't mention a hub.
someotherbloke: oh yeh
sorry my mistake
ive got the cassette and the mech
do u want?
name a price

Now call me cautious but does that make you want to send cash? Needless to say, I will not be purchasing from him.

Anybody got stories of PinkBike sales that went smoothly? Or am I just going to get tales of misadventure?

No it wouldn't fill me with confidence either. I don't think Pinkbike is alone in folk who are not exactly inspirational with their use of a computer or of the English language though.

Well that's two stupid people then. I wonder if we could find two stupid people on here? Any suggestions?

I reckon it's about on par with buying mobile phones on eBay

The odds are about 2/5 that the seller will be some kid with zero morals looking to rip you off in one way or another

I've only had good transactions and dealt with honest young men on PB personally, though there are more people on there who want to swap your things for their DJ pike or PSP.

Consider this:

Your question applies to the population, not just PinkBike; but if you add the bafflement of youth and and the likelihood of chemical intercourse, it's not hard to imagine why there's (apparently) such a high percentage of numpties on the site.

Do we need a qulifying (sic) figure fio (sic) forum membership?

A basic spelling and keyboard proficiency test might also be considered.

I sold my DH bike within a day of posting it on PB for pretty much the asking price to a nice young man who turned up at my office virtually the next day with a wedge of cash in his mate's car (not sure he really was old enough to drive 😉 ). I've had more hassle from people off here for stuff costing a fraction of the price.
