[Closed] Anyone want a cheapish bike repaint ?

Not sure if this should be in classifieds but to cut a long story short I’m looking to start a small business on the side doing custom paint jobs and I need a bike to paint to use for a bit of a portfolio of what I can do. I’ve painted a load of bikes of my mates but never really got any pics. 20 years experience of painting and can cut my own decals etc so won’t be a Fred in the shed rattle can job.
If anyone’s local to dy6 postcode and has a frame they want doing then let me know. Just asking for money to cover materials.
Feel free to delete this if it breaks any rules of the forum

Kingswinford way? I'm not TOO far away... I have a 1989 (I think) Kona that is needing some TLC. Thing is i have no idea what to do with it. The original paintwork was shabby so I covered it in black tape for station bike duties but now want to give it a new lease of life. But I have no idea what to do with it. Set it up path racer style with an olive gree or sky blue paint job or go for a classic late 80s or early 90s mountain bike paint job. I'm very much open to suggestions, indeed if you were interested I'd let you use the bike as a blank canvas for your own ideas.

All two pack paint with solvent base coats. I can do candy or chameleon flips or pearls etc. The world is your oyster

Johnny, yeah it’s kingswinford. Kona project sounds good. I’m open to anything really. Just so I can set up an Instagram and actually show what I’ve done

Just metal frame, or carbon as well?

Right well I'm very interested. Like I say, not decided what direction to take the bike in so if you wanted to play with it you're more than welcome. I'd just need to find the time to get it stripped down and then you can have it for however long you want. If you want, PM me your email address and I'll send you some pics of it as is and see what you think.

I’ve got a Brompton that’s in pieces waiting to be blasted and powdercoated. Do you fancy doing that? Easy enough for me to courier!

I have a 1997 klein with sunburst paint that is bubbling away... bit more technical due to the fade.

I’d like to say bigyim did an amazing job respraying a set of Fox 36 forks for me, the finish was superb. I’d thoroughly recommend him to anyone.

I'm miles away and interested, I've got a tin of Spray.bike to do a frame with that's for a cheap gravel build for my wife (who will use it three times but will also demand it looks good!) but if you can handle it being posted to you it'd be great to have it done by someone who knows what they're doing.

Could do! My pride and joy is in need of saving. Looking at maybe getting a weld first though.

Lost my old login so if I PM you its Mr Rider from this thread:

https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/noooo-p7-has-measles/

(edit) kford! I’m orginally from over the cut 🙂. Great idea btw. Would be great to have an affordable (and decent) local option.

I've got a Tuff Burner I've been meaning to get resprayed back to original colours as it had a hard life by the coast for a while and ended up very salty/rusty.
Up until about 6 weeks ago it was living at my parents in Wordsley, already stripped down. However it's now made the journey back to Cardiff with me, typical...
PM if you're interested, i've got all the RAL codes it'd need for handlebars, fork and frame.

I've got a old Airborne Carpe Diem frame I'm about to turn into a commuter, that I was planning to get sprayed first.

If you don't mind me posting it to you, you can paint that (i can come pick it up once its done). I even don't mind what colour you do as long as its dark!

Not local, but happy to post and cover a bit more for time and efforts.

How would an old Cotic Soul steel frame sound?

It's a bit tatty after 10 years of use but it's a great frame and I've had an inkling to get it cleaned up at some point.

I've got a Charge Plug that's due to go to the blasters and powder coaters.

I'm happy to cover couriers, materials and a bit for your time, if you can do something different, maybe a fade or something sparkly.

That’s an awesome looking sparkly finish on that frame! Is that a base colour with silver sparkles in it, or have you used spectra flare over something else?

That looks great 👍 Unless you’ve been inundated I might have a frame/fork/stem that I’d like painted in Triumph nuclear red or a bright candy pink similar?

If you're in need of any more frames, I have a relatively new Dartmoor Primal plus frame that I quite fancy playing with.

It is black at the mo and I'm toying with either something silly like oil slick looking or a nice really deep and shiny British Racing Green.

If this is of interest please let me know and I can send pics etc.

In the Midlands so can get over to you relatively easy and am happy for it to be stickered advertising your business 🙂

Good stuff.

I keep toying with having my 2020 Norco optic spray. just a solid colour with black graphics.

What sort of money would I be looking at? And I assume you will want to receive a frame fully stripped down? bearings removed?

I can’t see myself doing this full time to be honest as I’ve just taken on a new 9 to 5 job. I was just thinking about doing maybe 2 or 3 jobs a month mainly cause I love doing it and love bikes. Not really in it to make loads of cash out of people.

I'm building up a bike for my eldest son, I was planning to rattle can it but a slick paint job would be awesome.
It's just an alloy hardtail Specialized, nothing fancy.
Happy to post and cover costs etc if you have availability for it 😁

i'll pm you if i get the nod from richard. As hes just starting out he may not have worked out a proper pricing structure yet and id hate to have him feel committed to price-matching and the like.....
it wasnt just the painting, he also spent time experimenting for me with decals and dealing with my indecision 😀 he really went out of his way for me. top bloke and top work.

cheers

Candy apple camo cervelo. It’s all currently in bare carbon waiting primer then time for the fun bits.

Pretty busy now up to Xmas with a few jobs ad would rather not rush them out but if people are happy to wait I’m happy to be the stw go to paint man

That does look good!

I don't do insta sorry so can't see the cervelo to tell but I'm assuming it's carbon? Do you strip the existing paint or does it need doing before (or do you just prime over it?)

If you get off the ground as a longer term thing I'd be interested in getting my evil done, mainly as the original paint comes off in response to do much as a disdainful glance so it's got some big flakes missing. Would be nice not to notice them so often but I think it'd likely need stripping back to raw to get rid of the blemishes.

Family commitments has slowed the build but in the sunshine it really sparkles.
Cheers dude
