Struggling with my helmet light set up and riders behind casting shadows behind me @ night.
Its within my budget (£140)or is there anything out there that I have missed.

Anyone got a set?
I like the look of the Niterider Minewt USB tested in WMB but 110 lumens does not sound very much regardless of 'the actual light output' rather than rated lumens???
I already have a Fenix 180 lumen torch so would a Minewt be a waste of time other than the convenience of a USB charge facility and a specific helmet mount??
Sorry, not meaning to hijack the post ;-)....just that there was a LUU light pictured in WMB and then the review actually said Lumicycle....???
The answer to the question "Is there anything else out there that I've missed"- check out the dealextreme lights, they're constantly hyped but that's because they're very good and dirt cheap. I like my dealextreme P7 torches personally, others rate the magicshine light, either way they're sub £100 for a pair, and just one kicks out more light than anything else you can get for £100. IMO it's not a hard decision.
These new P7-based lights from On One, Nukeproof etc are probably miles better than the old competition to be fair to them but they're still 2-3 times as much as the dealextreme options. Even if they have great optics, good warranties etc, I can't see any convincing reason to buy one LUU instead of 2 dealextreme lights and a couple of bottles of whisky.

Minewts are really pretty feeble, a mate of mine has a pair and all I can say is avoid... Quite nice mountings though. They'd be good commuting lights if the pricing was better.
A DX P7 torch will set you back $38, which is around £20ish, plus a similar amount for a set of quality 18650 batteries and a charger. You can make up a mount for a helmet with a foam bar grip on the torch and some Velcro straps, and bar mounting isn't difficult either, plus you've got a really good torch for off the bike. I use mine a lot, while my fancy Fenix torches sit unused, cos the P7 is so bright. Get a couple, and you've got head and bar lights, or get a DX Bike light and a torch, and you're still well short of the cost of lights like the Newt.
Dealextreme now have a bike specific bar light, 900 lumens and rechargeable battery pack, ca £49, in real terms it is similar in output to the lupine 900 lumen jobbie ( which costs almost 10x as much!)
DX are now doing a headlamp version too.

What's the usual delivery time from Dealextreme? Its unlikely to arrive before Dusk Til Dawn in a couple of weekends time I guess?
I don't 'need' any new lights but that headlamp does look tempting.
Delivery time's quite random it seems, i ordered 2 torches about 5 days apart, the one i ordered first dispatched 2 days after the other one 😕 Reasonable enough considering what you pay for postage (1 cent), and still faster than some UK mail order companies. But you wouldn't want to depend on them arriving in time for that I reckon.
Just a word of caution here.
The internals of the DX magicshine were recently reviewed by someone who certainly "knows their onions". It didn't fair well.
Can't say about the hand torches on DX though, they may be better made.
Just thought I'd mention it.
Edit:- Oh, and its more like 600 lumens, I rode with someone who has one, last week.
CC.
Yeah, but the same (re lumens) is probably also going to be true for the LUU etc, they're not drastically different. Though as you say, should be better put together. The torches have proved durable by me though.
Oops, I shoulud have been clearer in my previous post.
When I wrote 600 lumens, I was referring to the DX magicshine.
I haven't seen a [s]toilet[/s] LUU light yet.
dunno about those lights rich but someone on here was doin a hope vision group buy and the vision 2 led was 130
that dealextreme helmet light seems to be exactly the same as the handlebar one, but with an elastic strap for your helmet. looks like it will still mount on the handlebars too.
I believe there will be a on one Luu test in one of the cycling mags very soon if not already.
Captain Crash... when you say the DX is 'more like 600lumens' what are you comparing it against? There seem to be a few lights out at the moment that claim 900lumens, presumably all using the same emitters.
So are all the 900lm lights 'more like 600lumens' or are the DX notably dimmer?

For $1 less than the original, but with a slower charger, seems to be the main opinion. As for delivery mine took a week, with one day before depatch, which is weird as other ppl report they been waiting longer than me... can't wait until Wednesday to use them in anger.
I'm sure an expert will be along shortly, but from what I understand most manufacturers give the theoretical maximum output of the LED. There will be variations in manufacturing meaning you might not get the quoted figure and also the quality of the lens or reflector will affect the actual light you see. The colour of the light emitted and your own eyesight can also affect what you personally perceive to be brighter.
Question is does it matter if its quoted at 900, 600, 400 lumens or whatever if its bright enough for what you want?
