How do you find it?

With regard to using with Strava, is it a case of turn it on and let it gets sats at the start of a ride and then turn off when you've finished a ride, then just manually download the track log?

I've been using an igotu logger which works fine but I bought a eTrex 20 before Christmas, had a bit of a play with it but haven't really taken it out of it's packaging: given this (and the stores extended Christmas returns policy) I may send it back for a refund but I wondered what users thought?

Yes use one of the original yellow eTrex for logging rides.

Then use easyGPS to download and save the tracks and upload to Strava. Works well with good batteries (will track under trees etc) although would be nice to be able to use rechargables.

Newer eTrex is probably a great improvement over the old one so should work as a great little GPS.

If the eTrex 20 is anything like the eTrex Vista HCx, then I guess it has an SD card slot and USB?

If so, then you just pop in an SD card, and make sure one setting is set to record everything to SD. Then you get 1 file per day, which you just copy over USB like a thumbstick. Then upload to Strava, Endomondo, Runkeeper, or whichever site takes your fancy (although I tend to manually trim the GPX file first).

The eTrex is great. A little bit bulky maybe if you only use it for tracking. Though it's very reliable. And excellent for navigation.

For Strava, just connect it to your computer with a standard USB cable (it comes with one), navigate to the GPX folder, and select the current track, or the saved track which you want to upload.

You will probably want to save and clear the current track whenever you finish a ride. Then it's ready to go for next time. You can do this in the Track Manager.

Thanks for the feedback

So does it create one file which you have to trim into seperate rides or does it create a file per each time you turn it on then off?

With my way, saving everything to micro SD card, it's 1 file per day, and multiple segments in the file.

With the method that butcher says, it might be 1 file per ride? but may still contain multiple segments.

A new segment gets started for all kinds of reasons - power cycle, loss of signal, etc.

I think Strava just imports 1 complete file as 1 ride? Endomondo imports the 1 file, sees multiple segments, and creates 1 ride for each. (And then you just delete the 0.0 or 0.1km long ones since these are clearly the gash where it lost track when you went in the cafe for lunch etc.)

Not sure on the whole segment thing...thought it was Strava that had the segments!

Strava just imports one complete ride and I'm hoping it completes it like butcher's method: 1 file per ride. Might give it a try
