Anyone still using a Garmin Edge 200? Route planning and turn by turn advice

Hi All

Looking to resurrect my old Garmin Edge 200 gps computer now I'm doing more gravel type rides with some directional assistance. A quick search of the forum sees that all the old websites that were previously used for reference to this device are no longer available- velogps, bikeroutetoaster etc are gone

Can anyone help with this?

Many thanks in advance

Paul

Map My Ride is still working and probably similar to those old website you used to use. These days Komoot is my go-to, though I have to admit I've not actually tried it to the Garmin 200 as I started Komoot when it's replacement came along. You can definitely download GPX files from it though, so no reason it wouldn't work.

It works with Garmin Connect just fine but you'll not get turn by turn, just a line on the screen.

Ridewithgps.com, bikehike, OSmaps, etc will also generate GPX files you can transfer to the edge. As mentioned though, you just get an arrow on a line and a scale rule, you won't get told to turn left in 200yds, etc.

The positive is you won't get told to turn "off of" something like a modern garmin! 🤮

To add the route to the edge - download the gpx, connect the edge to your computer & drop the gpx into the new folder

I still use mine on the commute, but you'll only get a breadcrumb line to follow.

I'd really resisted getting anything fancier than the Edge 200, and when it died I spend £20 on a used Edge 500 with the same display. I've since got an Edge Explore and it's so, so much easier to navigate with, especially on the gravel bike where you might be bombing along at 30mph and want to know how far ahead to slow down.

I bought a renewed Edge Explore from Amazon, it came in a Garmin box and was in perfect condition.

£135 at the moment:

Thanks for the replies. Looking at Bikehike, it allows you to put in course points which can also include turn signals (arrows- left right etc) onto a route so it looks like all is not lost...
