Hi - I'll be down for the weekend visiting family but would love to get a quick 2/3 hours of riding in, but no idea where to go.
Any ideas for routes/willing locals to guide a stranger for a pint or two?

Hi, I live in Witney, but tend to drive to the Forest of Dean, Aston hill, South Wales, Swinley Forest etc.
Try contacting the Witney Mountain Bike Club as they may have a group ride organised or could put you in touch with someone who can help more than me!
I'm nearby. To be honest the MTB'ing around here is pants. If I'm riding local it'll be on the lovely Cotswolds roads instead. Closest decent trails are the Chilterns imho, but you're looking at a 45 minute drive or so. You could pop into Oxford for a blast around Shotover, but you'll be sharing it with a lot of walkers and it's a bit of a maze.
If you have to stay local and off-road, I can send you a loop north of Witney that takes in the Oxfordshire way around Ascott, loops north of Charlbury, Stonesfield, North Leigh. It's not exactly memorable though, and my be miserably muddy.
I can certainly send you any number of road routes around here if you like though.
