Have the chance to get one of these relatively cheap, only issue is it's a 48cm, which according to the Merida size chart might be a smidge too small for a 5'7" hobbit. Thing is, there doesn't seem to be a massive difference between the 48cm and 52cm (usual size).

As a result was wondering if anyone actually had one, as no shops near me have , and can comment on sizing?

Looks like the Med covers 5.6" thro 6ft, that's quite a range methinks,

We have a local Merida dealer down this way, I'll pop in and take a look.

I thought that was quite a bit range as well, hence wondering if the 48cm would be ok.

If you get a chance, that would be appreciated.

Ok, word on the street (shop) is that they come up a bit small, he recommends getting one size larger.

They only had a Med in the shop and it came shy of my hip on the seat/top tube and the reach was a little "short" for me, so I would look at a large if I was considering one. (5.10 & and like an old skool stretch on a roadie)

Seem to be a lot of Merida dealers about the country, I use VeloCity near P'mth as they are a specialist bike retailer and come highly recommended.

Yep I've got one. I've got the 55 and I'm 6 foot spot on. It fits me pretty well, maybe a tiny bit on the small side but I prefer it that way. I do get a a bit of toe overlap on tight corners which does my nut in but apart from that its great fun.

I'm 5ft10 and the 55 I had a quick go on fitted me perfectly. You'd probably want the 52.

BUT... No guarantee or anything, but there's only 5mm in the top tube length going down to the 48, and the seat angle is steeper. Maybe a layback post would achieve the desired effect? It will probably come with a shorter stem than the 52 would, but that's easily rectified too.

EDIT: in fact, note how the reach (the important measurement) is the same on the 48, 52 and 55 frames! The contact points will be in different places because of the seat angle and head tube length, but that's easily adjusted with layback seatposts and different stems and/or headset spacers!

Sorry for not getting back to this sooner. Cheers for the replies, especially BikeBuoy. Looks like 52 might be best, but 48 is an option.

So clear as mud then 8)

Just to add to the confusion, there's a 52 in a shop near me, seems unusually large and fits me at 5' 11'' quite nicely. 🙂

By the look of the chart it's a sloping top tube on the 48 and a parallel on the 52, as they both have the same headtube length.

Loving the blondie as well, took me a while to get to the point of noticing her mouth moving 😆
