I've got a set of old Hope M4 hydraulic disc brakes, the silver caliper with 4 pots type and I've just renewed the pads.
All is well except that after a short while cycling the rear one starts to squeak (when not being applied). If I pull the lever in slightly then it stops but I can't figure out what's causing it. I've taken the tension spring clip out and stretched it outwards slightly to increase the return pressure on the pads but it's still happening - any ideas?
Many thanks as always.
Centralise the pads as in the hope video? One sticky piston
I'm pretty sure the caliper is spot on but I'll check out the video.
Thanks
The video shows how to centralise the pads inside an already centralised caliper.
i am praying for them to be fixed...hope it helps ๐
can definitely recommend that Hope vid TJ alludes to (THIS ONE), totally sorted out the annoying whine on my front brake! ๐
If it's a squeak without the lever pulled but goes whn you pull the lever, the chances are, the pad spring isn't keeping the pad fully clear of the rotor. Take the spring out, splay it open a little and then make sure the legs of the spring will hold the pads parallel.
Also, the pads will need to take a set to the rotor to level up perfectly so if the above doesn't cure it complelety, it should ease with time.
Silicon grease on the sides of the pistons - according to Hope
