Fingers crossed for all of you that have applied.

This mornings message

Dear Rider,

Thank you for applying to ride in the 2017 Enduro World Series. We have received an unprecedented number of entries and wildcards through this year’s lottery - more than we would have ever anticipated. As a result it’s taking us longer than normal to process your applications. Please accept our sincere apologies, we know you’re desperate for news on your application. We are diligently working through the applications as fast as we can and you’ll receive an update very soon.

For those of riders on the Reserved List your new EWSLabs event dashboard and Rider Profile will be available in the next few days.

We really are sorry to make you wait - hang tight and we'll be with you very soon!

Kind Regards,

Chris Ball

Which, as I suspected, means it's not really a genuine lottery. They must sift through the entrants and with the use of something like Roots & Rain, ensure the spots go to more competent riders.

There are 3 levels of entry above the lottery, Direct entry, points, wildcards. Whats left goes to the punters, got no reason to suspect it's not being done - your dealing with 8 races in 8 countries with people who are not on things like R&R or anything else. The wildcard part was the way to jump the queue and knowing who got in here they picked some fairly talented riders.

Or the number of 'genuine' lottery places are so insignificant it's pointless trying.

The reality is, it's moved on from the first few years to become more focused on the elite racers, which is should be really.

As a top 10 finisher i'm still too much of a pleb to go into anything other than the lottery. I did enter, but it's a fruitless task IMO.

I'm not going to lose any sleep if I don't nor am I going points chasing to try & get an entry.

Yeah I reckon that's the case. In the 1st 2 years, I and everyone I know got spots easily, then last year when it moved to the lottery, the only folk that got spots were essentially the guaranteed ones (SES winners etc)

I'm going to try and bag a spot in the Ireland challenger race on the saturday then watch the full race on the Sunday. Better than nothing

and for those still waiting check your mailboxes

Dear Rider,

I'm writing to let you know that unfortunately we will be running the 2017 Public Lottery again. A small error in our software created an insurmountable amount of corrupt data regarding rider entries. We tried working through the millions of cells of data, but we wanted to be absolutely sure that everyone who applied for the lottery had a fair shot. Therefore in order to maintain absolute transparency and fairness for all riders, we have decided to rerun the lottery.

This will not be open to any new applications, it is only being offered to those of you who applied the first time around. You will be emailed a personalised link in the next 48 hours, and then you'll have a further 48 hours to complete your application again. All monies that were held have now been released back to you.

These mails land in my promotions box on gmail so make sure your checking - if anyone wants to post when the mail lands it would be great.

Wouldn't want to be the person who made the web for for that one this week

Yep, trying to decide if I can be bothered to fill it all out again for the exceedingly small change of entry.

Maybe if it's quiet at work 🙂

Hope it quiet at work so you can get it filled in. You would be wondering what if all year long if you don't 🙂

Hardest bit for me will be not going with Abigale to some of them to cheer her on.

That's great news.

Abigale is doing six of the eight, she qualified on last years results, unfortunately for her the two down your way clash with her Uni studies. Saves us a bit of money but would have been worth it if she could have had the time off.
Hard bit now is putting the seasons itinerary together. A few clashes in the diary already.

Apologies for the thread resurrection, but I thought folks might find it interesting that the first round of the series in Rotorua is actually undersubscribed. EWS still have places in the main event available to anyone who wants them. With a slightly disappointing choice of stages (IMHO), 2000m+ of climbing and 65km in one day, I'm starting to wonder if I really want my place in the race!

Sounds about right to me. The EWS's i've done have been similar.

When a proper UK enduro is 45km & not dissimilar climbing levels an EWS should be a solid step up IMO.

I'll agree up until the start line 😉 ran into a wildcard competitor who was racing WC XC a few years back, when she declares that she is worried about the transition times - if she is worried I'm in denial... anyway time for another beer

Yeah, I also agree that the race should be testing. My comments about the course length were meant as a criticism of my own fitness, not the race itself. I have no business lining up alongside Jared Graves, but since I can, I will! I've done 2 previous EWS and this will be the biggest single day by quite a distance.

I do think it's going to be like turning up to one of those fancy valet parking exclusive hotels in a beat up astra the doesn't always start.

How was the roto mud?
We just got our course map here

a good kick actually stage one is easy but damm hard work to pedal all of it! Happy to see it at 46km but I reckon it's more climbing than the XC marathon Champs when it was there, lots of granite slabs so lots of scrapes follow.
