hi all

i need to clear out my shed and have a couple of bikes. They are both 26ers but I think are nice bikes with good specs and in great condition.

2012 Scott Scale RC in large. Stock components (DTSwiss wheels and fork and full sramxx groupset etc). This was £5.5k back in the day

2010 Giant Anthem X in medium. Mavic Crossmax wheels, sramxo gears/shifters, race face deus chainset, race face carbon seatpost, formula R1 brakes, Rockshox Sid WC etc. Drivetrain brand new and rear shock just serviced. Cost me about £3k to build in 2010.

Question - is there any value in either of these bikes these days? Should I list as full bikes or break up (although that's a pain I could do without)?

Cheers

woody

Haven’t a clue - in theory they’re usually worth more in bits, but in reality you can end up with a pile of used legacy drive train bits that no one wants. In other words together it’s a bike - in bits it’s a frame, fork and wheels... maybe brakes and a pile of recycling.

Why the description of condition and spec if the question is just if old, high-end 26" stuff sells better as a bike or bits? 😜

Yes I suppose eBay is the place to find out the value and breaking down might help. Another option could be to see to a second hand bike store like bike exchange

^^This^^ although maybe in a less patronising way.

Search by distance so you find out what it's worth in your area, (unless you want the additional headache of posting two bikes)  and turn on 'completed items'...

I reckon you might get £500 for the anthem, maybe £700 for the scott... Hard to estimate better to look at comparable bikes that have sold recently... EBay prices tend to be towards the top end of the market IME, so you may get more selling on there but don't forget their fees...

Mostly You have to remember people shopping for used stuff are normally after a bargain, so adjust your expectations accordingly...

Many thanks cookeaa

i suspect that it ends up being easier just to hang on to stuff rather than go through the motions of selling multiple bikes / parts on eBay - but the other half has other ideas

Ebay filters let you show sold listings only, so you can check how much similar bikes or components went for.
