Hi! I have a Thule Ride on 3.

https://www.thule.com/sv-se/bike-rack/towbar-bike-racks/thule-rideon-3-_-9503

What with LLS and massive wheelbases, the plastic wheel holders on mine have now all broken. The bikes are too long to sit properly in them, so the wheel turns slightly forcing the plastic to bend and eventually break. you can adjust how wide the base is by sliding the plastic holders outwards, but yeah the limit is quickly reached

Spares are available, but i imagine the same thing will happen again.  Anyone else have this and have come up with a good solution?

Are they not just limited by the mounting holes on the steel carrier? Dremel or drill some further out.

While you're at it, stagger them slightly, ie make them slightly further outboard than the one next to it, takes the rear axle away from the fork of the adjacent bike.

I have a Thule high ride carrier, said it wouldn't fit my civic, just needed the top metal straps shortened, which I did.

They're fairly simple things really.

Could you bolt on a bit of house roof
Guttering?

I had the same problem with a fiamma rack (overly long wide tyred bike), *apparently* the below could be bodged on(*not tried by me read it on tinternet)

https://www.thule.com/en-gb/bike-rack/accessories/thule-proride-fatbike-adapter-_-598101

But my ideas were along the jk route, square guttering or Preferably bits of scrap ally or buy a spare rail, cut bits off it and extend the existing rail by drilling/bolting etc.

I'm cutting the arms on mine and extending them using box section steel 25cm should be right

@nobeerinthefridge  yes that can be done, but by adding an extra slot an inch or so outwards from the existing last current slot, the end of the plastic wheel holder would not be supported by the metal.i dont know how crucial that would be .

guttering, can't seehow that would work. too flimsy and wide shirley?

@bikerevivesheffield  how would you extend them?

Before spending on replacement parts, I'd be tempted to just dremel a couple of wee holes at either side of where the plastic has split, then just loop a zip-tie or two. A mechanical fixing like that would be strong and neat enough, surely?

Cut arms
Put each end into a similar sized box section
Bolt
Done

I'd be aralditing a longer section of round guttering onto the bit in your photo. Effectively extends the base.

Na, if your gonna modify, do it properly with box section or the likes and a bolting arrangement, not plastic and glue.

I have ziptied the Thule fatbike adaptors to Fiamma rails, and used plastic guttering to make wheel holders for putting the fatbike on a Buzzrack carrier.

I would likely extend the centre section of the bar on this. It doesn't need to be massively wider. You could make new wheel holders too.

I modded my fiamia with an old crutch as it's too narrow, you couldn't get 2 fs bikes on with out them touching so it's now 3inch wider.

I had the same issue but took me awhile to realise and it kept buying new wheel holders as a local store had them at a £5 each.

In the end I would just use a toe strap further down towards the end of the arm, under the arm and over the rim to help reduce movement, this made my wheel holders last much longer.
