Hello STW detectives. Got a clicking on my hardtail... happens only when I pedal ie not freewheeling, and always at the same point of the pedal sweep (when the right pedal is at it's lowest point). Happens whether I'm standing or sitting on the saddle and only when I'm riding the bike ie I can't replicate it when it's on a stand.

Obvious guess is the BB, although there's no play in it as far as I can tell. Any thoughts please? Ta.

Edit: actually, it's more like a double click - a loud one followed by a softer one.. no idea if that's relevant!

Remove your left crank arm lube everything including the bolts then tighten everything back up as tight as you dare

Do you ride with flats or SPDs? If SPD's check the cleat interface I spent ages looking for that, replaced my admittedly ancient cleats with new ones and no more creaking!!

I had this on a carbon road bike got very scared the frame was cracking, backed the BB of a bit then cranked it back up = fixed!

Might be the pedal axle. I've had this with my commuter before now and it was down to the pedal.

Had something similar a while back - turned out to be a crack propagating around the BB shell ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

More recently, a loose bolt on a mech hanger resulted in clicking only when pedalling.

Apart from that, make sure the wheel is secure in the frame & check chainring bolts.

- had this a few times over the years - the most infuriating count turned out to be the aglets on my shoes laces pinging my chainstays

Not a clearance problem with the rear wheel when you're seated on the bike? Easily checked if you have a mate who can follow you for a bit.

BB almost certainly, possibly, could be.

Front mech cable end catching crank or maybe a frame crack, both of those have given me an annoying click

The end of the front mech cable catching your crank.

I keep a crap set of brand new pedals for this sort of stuff, instantly narrows down the list of options.

@Stuey, good use of the word aglets!

OP - try replacing the pedal first to eliminate this as a cause then move on to BB (assuming pedal isn't the issue...)
