Holiday in Anglesey coming up, debating which bike to take. The 650 rocket with 2.6 tyres and single ring..purely trail bike...or the HT 29 with skinnier tyres and lots more gears?
Is there much mtbing on Anglesey? I've seen there's a forest to the south and maybe a bit of cheeky coast path? Or is it more bridleway and track action which would suit the HT better.
Also eyeing up a dawn raid on Snowdon so I'm currently swaying towards the full sus.

Not really any mtbing worth bringing the big bike for - although plenty just across the water. Not very much in terms of bridleways either, but huge scope for light gravel type bimbling on rough lanes and forest tracks.

Thanks Wilder. Looking across the water to the mainland then, besides the big one can you suggest any routes or areas I should be considering, keeping driving time to an absolute minimum. Thanks

Marin trail in betws y coed has to closest surely . I go to Anglesey once or twice a year and do not normally bother with a bike , just go walking instead ..

Moel-y-Ci in Mynydd Llandegai isn't far. Marin trail and Capel Curig rides Like Crafnant and Geiryonydd aren't far depending on where you are on Anglesey.

You can also ride from Bangor all the way up to Ogwen Cottage on mostly traffic free paths with some quiet lanes in places. You'll find some riding in the woods around Bethesda too.

Park in Llanfairfechan and pick up the North Wales Path to Conwy Mountain and either do an out and back or loop over to Rowen for the return.
Out and back up The Drum starting in Llanfairfechan
Both will finish on a fast grass descent that's about 1.75km (if you include The Drum its more like 5km of mixed fast wide track and grass)

Both pretty much very good XC rides with great views if you get the weather. When we do it we start in Conwy and head clockwise.

All pretty much covered in the posts above^^. The Marin always worth the drive imo but people will disagree.

Anglesey summed up in this old thread https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/mountain-biking-in-anglesey/
but if you want to have a poke about, some gravel loops here https://www.angleseybackroads.co.uk/gravel-rides
