Hi all,
It's time for a new front tyre in time for Ard Rock.
I've been running a dhf 2.5wt exo quite happily, but I'm assegai curious- especially as the exo+ version is starting to appear.
Does anyone have any feedback on them?
Thanks,
Si

Not sure many punters have got their hands on a trail sidewall Assegai yet.

They grip well but are bloody heavy in DD or DH casing. Exo+ will be lighter but I think you'd probably want DD for Ard Rock.

Run a set for the first time this weekend in EXO flavour. Blow up big and put grip a DHR2 WT.

Interested to compare against a Wild Enduro from Michelin too.

Where are people finding the exo exo+ versions? My Googlefu is failing me!

Was out in Morzine last week and started off with a DHF Maxx Grip up front (always run a DHF up front), trails were dry and loose.
Put the Assegai on the front after a day on the DHF, it stayed on for the rest of the trip. Way more braking traction than the DHF (as expected with the big shorty centre knob) and feel like there is more traction when you arn't fully leaned over in the corners (think off camber, roots, etc).

Downside its slower rolling than the DHF (both were dual ply, maxxgrip). I'd hazard a guess its better than a shorty though. Its going to be a more versatile tyre than the shorty will be and will have an Exo/Exo+ when they come out, then live on the front of the bike.

Im running Exo+ Assegais and I tried both ends but found them a bit slow for the hard pack conditions round here, so paired with an Aggressor on the back and its great. Really grippy tyre. Its soft though, holy moly its soft on the edges. I can't see it lasting all that long.

On Exo+ I think its a better solution than DD. You tend to have to run the DD tyres soft to find the grip, which leads to dings on rims and cuts where the insert stops on the side wall I think. They do offer more protection on the cap, but it feels a bit like wearing 2 coats when going into a gun fight rather than a bullet proof vest. So far Exo+ hasn't let me down and it offers a better ride and lighter weight, and the higher pressure I can run makes it ride a bit nicer without loss of grip.

@benpinnick when are Bird picking up the distribution of Maxxis in the uk? Maxxis UK/Extra are shit/hopeless.

Bloody big, bloody heavy and bloody gripppy. They are rounder than other maxxis and the corning grip comes on a bit more gradually.

So draggy and heavy that I only use them for uplift days. No way im dragging it up a hill on my own steam!
