crash at muc off 8 last week has left me with a very sore shoulder. restricted movement, bit swollen. thought I'd give it a few days to see what happens.

Having broken my collarbone, I know what that feels like, and I've definately not done that. but think I could have a mild separated shoulder.

anyone done it? how long did it take to fix?

I'll probably get down to the docs this week to confirm if it doesn't get any better.

I did that playing rugby, very loud pop but must have gone straight back in. The pain got worse over a few days and had to use a sling and take ibuprofen. Took a month or so before I could play rugby again but could still feel it when moving shoulder into certain positions a year later. Never went to the doctor but should have.

Hope it gets better soon!

I did mine at Penmachno a year or so back, healing and recovery depends how bad you've done it.

If you're talking about what I think you are (no medical training here byw) then it's also called an ACJ dislocation and means the point where your collar bone joins your shoulder is buggered. They grade them from 1 through 5 in order of severity. I had a Grade 3 meaning a lot of pain, a bloody great lump on top of my shoulder and the end of my collar bone pretty much totally disconnected from where it should be.

Healing was 4 weeks in a sling, 6 months of physio. I was riding a bike (very carefully) after 6 weeks and went on a biking holiday at 12 weeks and would say that now totally back to normal, other than the lump that won't ever go away without surgery.

Probably best to get it checked out if it's still hurting. Good luck getting back to rights.

yeah - small lump, but not too bad. painful when moved in certain directions. Happily being on a bike is no problem (crash was practice day, raced on sunday with a ton of ibuprofen)

I reckon it's pretty mild.

will see how I go on this week - predictably I've got a lot of roadshows on this week meaning plenty of lifting!

Crash was just landing on my shoulder after going over the bars.

Yes, funnily enough this week after doing too much sawing to get a tree down. According to the physio I got cramp in some muscle in my rotator cuff and, due to a previous injury which means my shoulder is a bit slack anyway, it dragged my humerous out of position.

It was a very odd and painful sensation that i couldn't do anything about. Overloaded on ibuprofen and had to lay down on a flat hard surface. After about 35 mins it righted itself. It was still aching 2 days after it happened so got myself in at the physio who pinpointed the problem. It was a bit worrying as I was up a tree at the time and struggled to get down.

I managed to do the king of offs, about 25mph coming down the Road of Death in bolivia, disclocated shoulder with such force that I pulled the head of my humorous off, had to have 2 screws in it in Bolivia, then came back to find they'd messed up doing it and had to have it done again properly in UK.

Moral of the story and the best advice, don't wait to see how you go and then go and lift somehing making it tens times worse, if there is a real problem get it treated as soon as possible, the more proactive you are now the quicker your back on the bike. Get them to diagnose exactly what it wrong and see physio or whatevere it takes to get it right cause once you do screw it up properly it is never quite the same again.
