Does anyone know of a way to export a GPX from a route created in the Garmin connect app?
I’ve created routes via their random / automatic route generator and would like to get them onto my wahoo head unit as my instinct 2x screen just isn’t cutting it for following my created route(s)
I can see the “send to device” button and “share” button but none of these options allow me to export as a GPX or send it to another app (where I MIGHT have been able to export) and obviously won’t send it to a non Garmin device
Im assuming it MIGHT let me export it once the route has been completed so wondering if there’s a way to mark it as completed that I’m not seeing
Am I missing something obvious?
On the Connect desktop/web version (not the app), open the route, click 3 dots at the bottom right of the left hand summary panel, choose 'Download GPX File'

Garmin are quite spectacular in their non-intuitive non-usablity.
While I understand that web and app will have differing capabilities, surely something as fundamental as GPX download should be in the list of common functionality?
You can't even send a route from the app to the device without going via the web. Spectacularly useless in the wilds.

There's a button in the app (android) to send to your device, just press that then sync via Bluetooth and it's done.
Pretty sure you can...if the app has it in Courses, you just tell it to send to device, then you sync with device and that is it...done via Bluetooth from phone to unit. Pretty sure it doesn't go via the website, but once on the app it also appears on the website (so who knows!).
Likewise, if you have the .gpx file on your phone, open it and select the wahoo app to view it and you should be able to send it to your wahoo device - assuming it works a similar way as the Garmin app does...
I don't think it's possible, at least I have never succeeded.
I create routes in Strava on the app which I can then share with Garmin or wahoo.
This is another reason my next gps unit won't be a Garmin.
Why would Garmin make it easy for people to bypass their hardware and use their competitor products?
Or more to the point, if you have a Wahoo, why don't you create the route in the Wahoo software instead*?
*As I don't have a Wahoo, I have no idea if Wahoo even have route creation software - if not, or if it's shit, then it's Wahoo who should be criticized, not Garmin
I'm not really a Garmin fanboi even though I have a Forerunner watch and two Edge head units. Their software does leave a lot to be desired but, from a business point of view, making it easier for people to use competitor products is stupid 😉

Unless you have a Garmin Etrex - which is puzzling, because the Etrex can share routes with other Garmin models, over Bluetooth

Yeah, this goes back a very, very long way. The Etrex series, along with the Oregon, Dakota, Gecko etc are/were all built around the use of GPX files for Routes and Tracks. This is the "Outdoor Recreation" type favoured by hillwalkers and so on. The Edge devices and the various watches all use FIT files and Courses. I think the GPX format was just too restrictive to add all the various fitness/power data fields? Either way, it has resulted in two streams of products. I very nearly bought an 840, recently, when my Etrex suddenly died - until Garmin offered me an out of warranty replacement for £75.
The prospect of the more cycling specific features was tempting, but not enough to justify the extra spend.
