It's Citroen LHM fluid but I found it to be a bit too thick and heavy even though it is supposed to be the same. Meant the brakes didn't work quite as nicely as they do with the proper stuff.

Really? Only ever used Castrol LHM exclusively in all my Shimano brakes for 5+ years and they're fine.

Yes really. I've gone back to using the proper Shimano stuff as I can definitely tell a difference. It is more expensive but lasts for ages.

Another LHM user here.
I think the stuff I've got is Total branded left over from when we had a hydro-pneumatic Citroen.

Can you tell the difference when listening to music through oxygen free copper cables as well?

HSMO Hydraulic System Mineral Oil and LHM (plus) are much the same.

Matthew's got a point. I've heard quite a few times that viscosity, etc can vary quite a lot between different mineral oils so he probably did bnotice a difference.

I mentioned this months ago when comparing Magura Blood, Shimano Tango and LHM. Found the LHM is significantly thicker at cold temperatures and can tell the difference in my Magura brakes. Only used Tango in my XTRs as it came with the set.
