having just swapped wheels any advice on how to align disc brake calipers?
thanks
is it an IS or post mount one?
You'll have t give a bit more info' e.g are they post mount or IS? what brand are they etc.
sorry IS
Make sure the fork and frame mounts have been faced. This makes sure they are parallel to the disc surfaces.
Then you'll need to shim out the caliper so that the disc is centered in the slot through the middle of the caliper.
You can get shims from most decent bike shops or online retailers. Its a bit of trial and error, but you only need to do it once.
a lot id made of all this facing stuff and a lot of the time i dont think its really needed. even if you face the fork and frame mounts the hub could be off
whatever style it is (post or IS) you'll no doubt have some side to side adjustment via a slotted hole a bolt runs through, undo these, pull on your brake then do the adjustment bolts up. dead easy and no shims needed.
cheers
i agree with podge regarding facing, even bottom bracket shells - what if the threads are n't exact?
The whole point of a direct mount IS calliper is that there's no such adjustment though...
Agree facing is not as necessary as it was when there were only IS callipers, with all the brackets and stuff now things are less accurate anyway!
