Iirc a 29er wheel is about 10% bigger than 26 so you'll want a chainring around 10% smaller than normal or a sprocket 10% bigger. I'm not quite sure what normal is though for alfine
32:16 on a 26 = 32:18 on 29er. I can only comment from a s/s viewpoint so my limited knowledge is all used up 😕

It's an 18t on the hub at the moment Ton ... I think.
I've got a 20 tooth sprocket if you find the 18 too high.
Currently run 32:20 on a 29er alfine, spins out on smooth road descents but gets me up anything. 😀
Im on 34/16...buts thats on 37c road tyres.Which is about as much use as a chaocolate tea pot I know.Oh yeah turn the sprocket round (take off plastic guard) for better chainline.
