Hi chaps
Have been thinking about putting an Alfine hub in an old MTB frame - vertical drops, no EBB. The only solution would be to use a chain tensioner - can anyone forsee problems taking this offroad?
Cheers
T
Should be fine.
Don't Shimano even make a Alfine specific chain tensioner?
Lots of people are doing this already with no problems.
Quite a few threads about it on here and also over on mtbr.com
If you don't want to run a chain tensioner take a look at these:
http://www.forwardcycle.com/products.html
I was reading down that page thinking " yup, yup, im interested ... yup yup ypu yeah, oh this look good "
then I saw the price.
I have run mine with the alfine chain tensioner and two front rings for 2500 miles and no issues.
Yeah, they are not cheap. Although remember it does include the bottom bracket. If a Shimano HT2 BB costs you £40 and a chain tensioner costs £20 then you are already over half way to the cost of it.
buy a frame with an EBB?
by strange coincidence I've an original inbred 18" with EBB which I'm about to relist for sale at £100
Magic Ratio it.
