Anybody managed it on an XC hardtail ? Was riding the DH there at the weekend and it seems mahoosive but looks definately do-able.

Which one's the step-down? I've done one of the DH courses there on my HT (the one that doesn't start as just a straight drop down the hill, but starts with a well-made trail), and although I wasn't as fast or edgy as my mates on Yeti 575s or Blur LTs, I wasn't far behind them.

EDIT: It wasn't the step down, I've just seen that, here...

Just make sure your bike is really sound before you try it!

Do you mean the 5 (might be 6)foot step down on the DH course or the 2 foot step down on the Omega Man / Shredder?

Sure it'd be fine if you're smooth, it's not a rough run in or out.

I probably wouldn't attempt it on an XC hardtail

Then again I wouldn't try it on a full DH bike either!

Seen it done a few times years ago. Rik from Drum's wee brother did it but that was on an Orange Missile. Think he broke his Bombers on the landing though.

done it on a marin B17 and a dmr trailstar with 5 inch z1 bams

both bikes are sadly deceased - DMR has no headtube and the marins pivot split from the down tube - the marin was about a week after the SCU DH there - after sessioning the track all weekend i thought i got off lightely i was just arsing about in the woods.

DMR died after hitting the kinoull triple way too fast and jumping off for safety - bike hit a tree !

What happens when the crash guy hits the ground? Looks very odd.

I think that was my mate Dave Pettigrew... He was not in good shape! Broke his collar bone...

Ps. I did the step-down on my Chameleon once upon a time, but it REALLY sucked... DH bike for DH courses from now on.
