Ive had a search but cant really find what im after,

What is a good 10 speed cassette? I have a HG62 on my five and wanted something lighter. There are plenty of road bike 11-26 type cassettes about - will they be any good? I quite like having a range of gears.

I like the way it changes, nice and quick and also don't want to spend the earth!

Cheers,

1-26 is not a lot of range whatsoever. Generally cassettes get weaker and lighter, not massively better (someone in here said pro road riders often use a cheaper cassette to increase the weight of their bike to meet the UCI limit).

IF you're running ten speed, look for 11-34 or 11-36. The 36t big cog is the only real reason to go 10-speed over 9speed, as 9-speed 11-34 cassettes are pretty good.

Deore has a single block carrier, SLX has the largest three on an aluminium spider, XT has the next three on a smaller alu carrier and an alu lockring (which apparently loses a lot of weight!)

Not sure if a road cassete would be any good, I imagine it would send your gear ratios to cock ?

Xt 10spd cassettes are £46 on crc ATM which are nice and light.

Yep, as above, XT is a solid choice.

XTR, PG 1070 and XX are all good, depending on what you want to spend.

I was looking at the XT. They look good and ive heard some good things about them. Other than that the price shoots up to about £150 which is a bit more than I wanted to spend.

XT all the way. Less than 50g heavier than XTR for half the price
