Hi all,
While i'm looking to replace a damage rear mech, and searching for a new one, ive noticed that there are different length cages, normally mid and long. So what i would like to know whats the advantages of each one and what am i going to need on an Intense 6.6, 9 speed, double ring set up.
Secondly i'm about to order a bash ring to replace a rather battered old one, now its listed for a 40 tooth ring but i'm running a 36 tooth ring that i need to protect, is it going to be massive and look odd and do i need to get a 36 tooth one or will a 40 tooth size be ok?
Many thanks
Steveo
40t bash will look big but will do the job. Personally I would get the right size or no larger than 38t but hey ho and go for a medium or short cage on a double front set up.
ok thanks for you reply,
Steveo
The reason for the different cage length (think you were asking this?) is that the longer the cave the better it is at taking up the slack eg, triple ring setup requires a longer chain than a 2 or 1 chainring setup and therefore hasmore slack to be taken up when using the smaller chainrings upfront and smaller cogs out back. The disadvantage to using a longer rear mech is it's more likely get caught and brake/snap by rocks, roots, etc.
