Mate is buying a £500 hybrid and he showed me a Trek fx 7.3. I thought that looks fine but then realised its 8 speed. Had a further look and it seems half the hybrids on Evans are 8 speed.
I thought this is a bit weird, seeing as I probably switched to 9 speed 4+ years ago.
Should I insist he gets 9 speed or is this just the norm for the pricepoint?

my 2009 sub is 8 speed - cheaper chains and cassettes!
