Where can I have a go at 4x type stuff? It looks like a good way to learn stuff I don't like to do on the trails (like, having my wheels leave the ground)?
I'm based in North Notts if that's any use...
just pop along to your local BMX track, its not 100% the same but its near enough
If you're prepared to travel, Leamington Spa have a track.
you're not far from Chesterfield BMX track, that's a good one to start with...
Bolehills in sheffield is a pretty special place too...
What time do I go to ChezVegas BMX track so as to avoid there being anyone else there? I'd prefer to fall off with as few onlookers as possible.
Theres a good 4x track in Ruddington just south of Nottingham, soon to be 2 minute ride from my new house! whoop whoop!
term time mid day I find is best. means all the kids should be busy at school instead of showing my lack of skills up
Ruddington country park has got a 4 X track but if your North Notts try out the Bulwell BMX track there's a club IIRC Bulwell Outlaws or somethings. google it and you'll find it
Boowull? Stuff that, I want to come back with my bicycle ๐

When its raining
We used to include the Bulwell BMX track on night rides every now and again. There was no-one ever there apart from us at 9pm on a cold, wet, windswept Thursday night!
It's a little further away, but there is also the BMX track in Alvaston in Derby...
Alvaston BMX track is awesome! Thoroughly recomend it for a beginer.
On a side note
is a very bad idea, who's going to call the ambulance? Your hoby is riding an antiquated mode of transport round muddy woods and fields and your worried what a few kids you don't know will think?I'd prefer to fall off with as few onlookers as possible.
Bolehills is hard work as the first step-up followed by a rythm section/tripple on a corner just after the start ramp makes life miserable for begginners.
Never been to Chesterfield track.
edit: although the back/bottom straight and the next one are mint for learning on as the big berm gives plenty of speed into both. It's not as easy to get to though, alvaston is about 10min ride fromt he station, bolehills is a good 20-30min of solid climbing to get over Crookes..

tell me about it, Hillsborough to Crosspool almost every day means I have to go through Bolehills and Crookes. That hill doesn't get any easier

Going when it's packed with kids who ride it every weekend isn't going to be a good way to learn - I'll spend more time dodging people doing twice my speed than thinking about technique.
Anyway, I don't fall off. ๐
I wouldn't worry about other people being quick, they will either be so much quicker they'll treat you as stationary or slower than you, the number of kids who are super tallented is actually suprisingly small usualy, its like MTB, lots of hanging arround looking the business before minceing round.
Chicksands
Not a 4x track but Western Park in Leicester has a really great jump track with varied sizes for different abilities. They're all tabletops as well with a couple of almost-doubles. The jumps there are really well built and effortless to ride - makes those at Chicksands look really sloppy and shite.
