Thinking of taking the kids to watch some 'cross action this weekend - can anyone recommend where to watch?

I figure the track up to Pen-y-ghent would be a good spot but advice much appreciated.

cheers

Ribblehead viaduct is a good spot as well, usually good crowds and there is a bacon butty stand!

Go there first then move on to PYG lane?

Advice?
Take waterproofs, wellies, warm clothes and an umbrella! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Watch out for riders when moving around, they don't half shift on the descents and stopping is a bit of a lottery at the best of times (canti brakes, muddy rims...), I've seen a few bike/walker collisions over the years.

There's always big crowds at Ribblehead, great place to watch. Midway up PyG is good too cos you can see them going up and down the same track.

Leaders will be at Ribblehead by about 11.30 and onto PyG by 12 so you want to be midway up the hill by then. To give you an idea of times, it takes <20 mins by bike to get from the summit of PyG to the finish; from the base of PyG to the summit by bike is somewhere in the region of 35mins for the leaders to what feels like 2 sodding hours for me.

Anyone got any info on the conditions?

I assume it is grim and getting grimmer. Looks like heavy rain for Sunday.

@jonba, it will be bone dry, take a dust mask as with that many riders there will be a large cloud, oh and factor 50 sun cream. ๐Ÿ™„

Wetsuit and a snorkel will be my riding gear of choice ๐Ÿ™‚

Saw this in the forum. Wetsuit might not be a bad idea.

I assume the first climb turns into a complete mudbath. Migh consider putting the studs back in my shoes.

Does it tend to eat brakes etc. or is it normally ok.

A wetsuit is the right choice !! Not sure about the brakes as I have only ever had disked crossers though might have to go back to cantis as disks are fashionable now.
