Hi,
Has anyone found a 29er Wheelset that fits a shimano 11 speed road cassette? the reason i ask is i have 105 11 speed and discs with a 135 hub spacing and 15mm front axle on my CX bike and want to upgrade the wheels.
I know hope do an 11 speed freehub conversion, but their 29er wheelsets are a bit too wide for CX and i don't like the rims on their road disc wheelsets using the Pro 2 hub.
If no one can suggest an alternative, i'll get some built up, but just want to see if there are any suggestions before i bite the bullet
Anything with DT240 (or 350 or 180) hub internals - so Bontrager etc, as well as handbuilts. Recent Pro2s with 40t ratchets - build onto narrower rims if you don't like their options.
Mavic factory wheels should work (or be convertible) too.
If it helps I have found crests to work very well with cyclocross tyres
Why does it need to be a mountain bike wheelset?
Mavic ksyrium pro disc are nice (if a bit spendy)
What rims are you after?
Speak to a custom builder maybe...? I'm just about to build my own up for my new winter bike, there's increasingly more choice in the disc brake road rim market now...
I've built up some hope pro 2 evo hubs on stans crest rims which have been great so far.
You can get the hope hubs with the 11 speed body prefitted now too.
I have a barely used rear wheel only if its any use. Pacenti sl23 all black rim on novatec 712 11s hub 28 h built with black Sapim DLite spokes/alloy black nipples £100 squids.
Crests aren't too wide for cross, but Hope will also build a couple of Hoops with Stans Alpha on either XC6 or Pro 2 Evo. Could be worth a look.
I was just looking at off the shelf MTB wheel sets as my cross bike has a 15mm thru axle front, which none of the road disc setups have. I know Hope can be converted easily, was just looking at off the shelf options really.
Will probably get some Stans Alpha 400 rims built up 28 spokes to Pro 2 evos's with the 11 speed freehub.
Thanks all
Will probably get some Stans Alpha 400 rims built up 28 spokes to Pro 2 evos's with the 11 speed freehub.
Possibly cheaper to live with the 32h Hope Hoop version I suspect. Hoops tend to be good value compared to self builds.
Cost isn't the issue, i can get wheels built up super cheap and parts on trade, so not an issue, just looking for a quick decent option.
I'll just go with a build of my choice.
Cheers all
I'm on crests on pro2 evo 40T on my CX bike, with an 11sp ultegra set up. Apart from the front wheel needing a bit of adjustment (hope hoops) its has been excellent.
