Does anybody ride a 2x10 setup with a 27/42 ring chain set on the front?
I was wondering how it would handle for general trail centre riding? I do like having the granny ring for the gnarly climbs but was wondering if there would be that much difference? The Cassette would be a 11-36 so would this make up for the extra teeth on the front, essentially providing a lower gear?

I have a 29/42 2x9 speed set up with an 11/34 cassette and it would be more than adequate for trail centre use. It's a fairly light bike but your proposed set up would be fine.

I rode a middleburn duo with 29/42 for while. Was generally fine. If I couldn't get up something in that gear it was quicker to walk anyway.

27x42 with a 11/36 should be fine for almost everything. Used to run a 29x44 with a 11/32 which was ok most of the time but big climbs did hurt. (swiss style climbs, trail centre climbs as a rule aren't that hard)
