Hello

I have just bought a slot dropout Inbred (it sort of looks like a Dekerf!) and am in the process of building it up. Really like the Inbred's ruby red paint by the way.

All is going well but I can't decide whether to run 80mm or 100mm forks - the On One site says that 80mm ones should be fine.

Does anyone have experience of both and therefore a recommendation?

Riding will be mostly straightforward XC.

Tim

I tried mine (geared inbred though) with my old 80mm bombers when I got it.. It felt all wrong. Too long in the back to be so upright at the front.
I got some 03 MX pro's (yup, a while ago!) the next day and it was spot on. Slightly slacker and better weighted.
It may be ok with 80mm forks if you can pull the rear wheel right forward.

Running some RC40's on my new Slot-Inbred so playing around with travel. 100mm works best for me. 80mm is fine, not twitchy like a Soul at sub 100mm, but at 100mm it just works so bloody well. Its making me question why I have a 5" FS.

If you've got the choice, 100mm would definitely be the way to go. They're ok to run 80mm forks, but designed around a 100mm. Also ok up to 5" too, which suggests that an 80mm fork is going to make the handling a little lively.

Incidentally, just built up an Inbred 29er today, with an 80mm travel Reba. The 29ers are designed around an 80mm travel fork though iirc, and safe up to 100mm. Going to see how it handles before I try extending the travel to 100mm, but it looks like it might be a touch lively to be fair.

And yes, the stays are quite reminiscent of old Dekerfs...

Thank you for the feedback.

On balance I think I'll go with the 100mm option even tho heavier.

forget the travel its the axle to crown distance that makes the difference. Early 80 mm and 100mm bombers are the same length but the 80s dont move as far.
