Hello, can anyone help?
I'm trying to find a replacement fork, for my 2012 Trek Fuel, one of the stanchions is damaged and oil is now getting past.
The bike has 26" quick release wheels and a tapered headset, replacements forks of this specification are now very few and far between...
Does anyone have any recommendations as to what would be a good buy? Or could I use a 27.5" fork?
Yeah a few of my mates run 27.5 forks with 26" wheels no prob, extra mud room too! 🙂
just check the a-c* of your current fork and get a close enough 27.5
* Axle to crown - ie the actual length of the fork not its travel and something near enough [ + or - 15 mm more if you like] will do IME

As to actual forks, does anyone have any recommendations that would be suitable, decent mid range about 120mm travel?

you can use a straight steerer with a larger crown race, lots of places sell them.
If you can't find the right crown race you could replace bottom half of the headset
What forks are on there now? How much do you want to spend?
Last time I looked you could still get Revelations in 26" size if you can't find a suitable 27.5" fork. Or, pick us a used bargain!

27.5" forks normally have a larger offset value than 26" forks, normally around 44mm vs. 39mm. This leads to an increase in trail, with associated changes in handling.
I've tried a 44mm fork on a 26" bike and I didn't like it, felt too light at slow speed and twitchy at high speed so I'll stick to finding dedicated 26" forks thanks or 27.5" forks with 39mm trail.

Because there's loads of 26" forks with straight steerers knocking about. Even more with 20mm thru axles.

Alternatively I have a 150-120 travel adjust revelation 🤗. Probably too long for your requirements, but I ran mine in a Trance.
Unsubtle stealth ads aside, I would recommend not getting another QR model - go bolt through and upgrade the wheel.
