I've decided that my 454 pikes have finally seen enough. With marked stanchions after riding them for a good couple of years and never servicing the lower legs, I've now learn't my lesson the hard way. I'm now looking to find a suitable replacement to fit aboard my trusty Soul. What do the folk of STW recommend. I'm mainly doing 'trail' based riding, with the odd other bits and pieces thrown in.
The reba is looking good at the moment, or some SIDs. Should I be looking away from rockshox?
I got some Recon Gold 15mm from Merlin with 15mm axle for ~ £200. They seem really good for the money. you dont get the poploc lever with them though so worth keeping in mind if you want to adjust the compression
As you're replacing the Pikes, are you looking for 20mm axle forks?
Not too fussed at going down to a 15mm front axle, just don't want to go back to a QR as I think that I would miss the stiffness of the front end straight away.
What length steerer do you need? I have some Pike 454s with 20mm axle going really cheap!
180mm steerer min
I've potentially got some very good condition (ie. only about 12 rides old) 120mm travel 20mm axle Reba Teams going for sale at the moment. I'm looking at going across to a 29er for my hardtail, that's the only reason I'm offering them, as they're an amazing fork!
Would be freshly serviced ready for their new owner if you were interested. And about 200mm on the steerer too. My email is in my profile.
Would be interesting mboy. I'll drop you a mail later on, would you be able to get some pics for me?
mboy - YGM.
Reba Team would be my first and last call I reckon, though possibly Sids on a lighterweight build. Stiff, and better performing than your old fork.
And if you've neglected a Pike to death, I'd probably suggest sticking with Rockshox as the Fox equivalent would most likely have died ages ago. But to be fair any fork will die eventually.
I recently got a set of X Fusion Velvets with 130mm, they are ace and come in 120mm travel. £305 new from singletrack bikes in Bonnyrigg.
Reba teams seem to be selling for about 200 if recent ads on here are anything to go by, so its a no brainier to get one IMO.
Fantastic forks!

Might get you an older pair of pre Blackbox Reba Teams in ok condition perhaps, later Blackbox versions still definitely worth more.
