[#9843288]

So am looking at upgrading my Mtb to 11 spd and rather than getting rid of the current 10spd cassette and shifter was going to bung it on my hybrid.

The hybrid has a 26/36/46 chainset.  I was going to buy a Deore long cage much but the capacity is 45 tooth.  I technically need 51 tooth (I think).

Question is can I make this work?

How often do you cross chain the hybrid? Does the hybrid need that much range? Could you just remove the granny ring? What size cassette does it currently run?

Never cross chain it.

Probably doesn't need the range but hadn't even considered just removing the granny ring.

Currently has an 11-32 9 speed

So a 34 tooth chain ring would give you the same bottom end. You'd not really lose much going 36/46 then.

You'd probably get away with it though. It would only be a problem on the granny ring an a couple of the smallest sprockets.

Ah ok. And just adjust the limit screw on the front much to stop it moving into the granny ring position  (If I remove the granny ring)?

Some front shifters have a switch so you can select between 2 and 3 speed. Having said that, almost seems pointless to remove the granny ring if everything else remains.

If you don’t mind the couple of hundred grams and were adjusting limits anyway the granny ring could just stay and be blocked off by limit...

So to be honest it will work I just have to make sure I avoid cross chaining the granny ring with the smaller sprockets as the mech can't take up that amount of spare chain?

Shouldn't be a problem in all honesty as I have always been aware of and avoided cross chaining.
