Hi
Looking at going 1 by 10, changing from 2 by 10. I never use granny ring. Currently got 42 tooth up front and 11 by 32 rear.
What's best to do, go 11 36 rear? With 38 up front?
I have shimano xt setup.
This is I know a rider preference but would like to get it right. Mainly singletrack riding and racing.
I also would like a chain guide but problem is I would need direct mount d type but I believe they are expensive.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you never use the granny in theory you don't need to change anything... in reality I'm guessing you do so I'd start with an 11-36 and see how you get on but yeah most people would use a smaller front ring as well

I have a 29er with a 1 x 10 set up. Up front I have a 36t ring and the cassette is a 36-11 and I use one of those Superstar things that fit behind the bottom bracket. No probs!

I run a BB stinger on my Mega. As it has ISG05 mounts I'm going to buy a Blackspire ISG05 Einfachx to take of the top dutys.
I figure the stinger will stay where it is with the chain running in the middle ring part of the roller.
