If you don’t ask, you don’t get. We can’t think of a current eMTB that ticks all of these boxes, can you?
Following on from last week’s “36% of ebikes go wrong” article that revealed e-bikers’ real world reliability findings, this week we’re delving into the results of the survey that e-curious people submitted.
Truth be told, there was a whole lot of “don’t really know” to the questions that we asked during our first ever E-Bike Week.
The key takeaways
32% of responders wanted a Midpower eMTB. The majority of responders didn’t know/say what power of eMTB they wanted.
45% of responders wanted a Bosch motor. 19% wanted DJI Avinox. All other brands were between 4-8%.
34% of responders wanted a battery with at least 600Wh. 16% wanted less than 600Wh. Approximately half of responders didn’t know/say what size of battery they wanted.
27% of responders wanted a Trail Bike eMTB. 27% of responders wanted an Enduro eMTB. Approximately half of responders didn’t know/say what type of eMTB they wanted.
41% of responders said the reason they were considering an eMTB was either ‘to do more’ or ‘time constraints’ (which we’re rightly or wrongly combining into one result*). 20% said it was due to ‘old age’. 15% said it ‘because friends have them’. Other reasons included ‘commuting’, ‘so my other half can keep up’ and only 6% were honest and said ‘it’s easier’.
*30% said ‘to do more’, 11% said ‘time constraints’.
We can’t think of a current eMTB that ticks all of these boxes. But we also suspect/predict that midpower is on the wane; the era of the affordable sub-20kg full-power big-battery eMTB is due any day now. The Amflow PL Carbon is nearly there but its ‘kerb weight’ is over 20kg.
Keep watching the skies!
Or just wait for Eurobike 2025.
