The 2024 XC Mountain Bike World Series season is just around the corner – the first race is April 12-14 in Mairiporã, Brazil. As we wait for the UCI to reveal the official list of teams and riders for 2024, take a look back at 2023’s season. Who will you be watching for this year? With the Olympics in the mix, perhaps some riders will be forced to make choices about which events to peak for?
In the women’s races, it was all about the young riders last year, with Puck Pieterse, Loana Lecomte and Mona Mitterwallner all delivering the consistency needed over the season to grab the podium spots. Will it be the same three this year? There’s a great depth in the women’s field, so it’s all to race for.
Over in the men’s XC field, Tom Pidcock has said he wants to focus on the Tour de France, which will surely keep him away from the first half of the year’s XC races. In contrast to the women’s races, it’s the old hands who have been dominating the men’s XC top spots. Will Nino Schurter extend his record with a 10th series victory? Or will Jordan Sarrou and Mathias Flückiger think they can close the gap this year? Or will there be some new young guns there to take on the established names?
The 2023 season of the UCI Mountain Bike World Series was undoubtedly one for the history books! Dominant performances and iconic wins filled the year with excitement and ‘edge of your seat’ racing that not even the brightest minds could’ve predicted! Sit back and enjoy the 2023 season recap of nail-biting racing across the globe from the UCI Mountain Bike Cross Country World Cup.
