Donate to World Bicycle Relief and Trek will match it

by 2

Trek has allocated £500,000 to match funding donations made to World Bicycle Relief until 31st December 2021, so any donation you make via their fundraising page will be doubled.

World Bicycle Relief’s Buffalo Bicycle is our Bike of the Year

This year, instead of selecting a Trek for our Bike of the Year, we chose World Bicycle Relief’s hard working Buffalo Bicycle. They’re designed for the rigours of daily life in developing countries where people often have to walk long distances to accomplish everyday tasks. Since 2005, Buffalo Bicycles have helped kids get to school, health workers to patients and farmers to market. World Bicycle Relief is on a mission to continue helping people gain mobility and independence through bicycles. What can you do to help? A donation to World Bicycle Relief in any amount helps empower someone in need.

If you’re going to donate, be sure to do so through the Trek link, so that they can track and match your donations. Thank you to everyone who has supported the Singletrack ‘N+1’ appeal during the year – but please use the Trek link for all donations until 31st December to make sure your donations gets that match funding.

Trek has listed four reasons why you should donate to World Bicycle Relief:

You’ll help children get an education

  • Education is the great equaliser for rural children, but distance is a big barrier. Bicycles help students overcome the many challenges they face on their way to school.

You’ll help increase healthcare access

  • With two wheels, health workers are saving lives. They’re working to combat COVID-19, eliminate malaria, teach health and nutrition, and visit more homebound patients.

You’ll help boost local economies

  • With a bicycle, farmers and entrepreneurs increase their carrying capacity, earn more income and improve the quality of life for their families.

You’ll help improve the lives of women and girls

  • Investing in women and girls will change the world. With bicycles, they can access education, healthcare and livelihoods to break the cycle of poverty and thrive.

And here are four more reasons:

  • You could probably persuade people to donate instead of giving you unnecessary gifts.
  • It’ll make you feel warmer and fuzzier inside than any Christmas jumper ever will.
  • A donation instead of Christmas cards saves trees too!
  • Bikes are great, spread that love.

Even the smallest of donations will be matched by Trek, so you can still have an impact no matter what you give. And even if you can’t donate you can have a huge impact by simply spreading the word about World Bicycle Relief and the current match funding.

Thank you.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

This is one of those things I have promised I would do but you know…life etc etc. However, this buy one, get one free offer from Trek just tipped me over the edge. Donation made. Two extra bikes in the world that should make a massive difference to some folk and I’ll live without replacing my pedals or tyres for a bit longer. Its got to be good for my trail karma though, right?
