2021 Specialized Demo with wheel options and adjustable geo launches

by 1

The 2021 Specialized Demo has been revealed with new mullet compatibility and adjustable geometry.

If you cast your mind back to the past Downhill WC season then might remember that the Specialized Gravity Team had plenty of success on the 2019 Demo. Well, if what Specialized is saying is correct, they’ve built on that success with the help of the Loic and Finn, to launch an updated 2021 model.

Visually the 2021 Demo shares the same overall look as the outgoing model, but the devil is in the details, and on closer inspection there are some major changes to this downhill bike.

Party time!

With the team running a mullet setup for 2019 it only made sense that the new 2021 bike would offer the same, but Specialized has designed the new Demo to give riders the choice of what wheel size they want to run.

Using a chip on the rear axle, riders can choose to set the new Demo in 3 different settings. Short is a dedicated 27.5in rear-wheel setting designed to offer the best manoeuvrability and make the Demo a more playful ride. In it’s Long setting the Demo is designed to run with 29in wheels front and rear, perfect for stability on high-speed tracks.

29er or 27.5 your choice.

In the middle setting, riders can play around with either a 29er or 27.5in rear wheel, offering a more flickable 29er set up, or more stable mullet mode.

It’s not all about geo and wheels though, and Specialized has spent a great deal of the development time working to improve the suspension performance, especially on square-edged impacts. By giving the 2021 Demo a more rearward axle path, the new bike promises to hang up less and be overall much faster through technical terrain.

Anti-squat numbers have been tweaked to improve braking so that in those lever grabbing moments of trail, the suspension continues tracking the ground, improving traction while remaining smooth. The suspension improvements are also claimed to improve the pedalling efficiency of the bike too.

Specialized will be offering the Demo in 2 builds in the UK, or if those off the shelf options don’t appeal, the frameset will be available by itself.
