Video: Rob Warner vs. Rally Car

by 11

Once upon a time, before Top Gear nicked the segment format, You Bet! pitted a lycra clad Rob Warner against rally driver Malcolm Wilson. Much as we’d like to see an update using a UCI Downhill World Cup track, those rally drivers do tend to skid a bit, don’t they? And just imagine the “What tyres?” threads. So instead, time travel back with us to circa 1996/97. Skip to 4:29 to get past all the studio waffling, and 6:12 for Rob’s run.

We don’t want to spoil the ending, but find it hilarious that Rob’s wikpedia page notes “he did get to meet Jet from Gladiators”.

As it happens, one of the perks on our campaign for Mountain Biking: The Untold British Story is for you to to ride with Rob Warner! Lycra optional.

David started mountain biking in the 90’s, by which he means “Ineptly jumping a Saracen Kili Racer off anything available in a nearby industrial estate”. After growing up and living in some extremely flat places, David moved to Yorkshire specifically for the mountain biking. This felt like a horrible mistake at first, because the hills are so steep, but you get used to them pretty quickly. Previously, David trifled with road and BMX, but mountain bikes always won. He’s most at peace battering down a rough trail, quietly fixing everything that does to a bike, or trying to figure out if that one click of compression damping has made things marginally better or worse. The inept jumping continues to this day.
