Avoid Wharncliffe Woods 14th May (please)

by 0

We’ve just been contacted by Henry from Ride Sheffield who’s asked us if you lot would mind steering clear of Wharncliffe and Greno Woods in Sheffield on Saturday 14th of May.

There’s a world ranking orienteering event going on (the British Champs no less) and runners will be racing around the woods there from 11am-5pm, particularly in Greno and the southern half of the slope at Wharncliffe.

Hosted by the South Yorkshire Orienteers, there will be just under 2,000 competitors ranging from aged 8-90 from all over the country and with entrants in the World Ranking Event (the Men’s and Women’s Elite Classes) from Ireland, Finland, Sweden, Hungary, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

Henry’s keen to point out that other user groups were very good with keeping clear while the Steel City Downhill mini downhill was on and it’d be nice if mountain bikers could return the favour.

If you fancy taking part then there will be courses suitable for beginners, families as well as more experienced runners available to enter on the day and a string course for younger kids (where they literally follow the string!) which is free to enter.
