Charity coast to coast bike ride – and it’s offroad…

by 1

A charity that supports lymphatic cancer patients is challenging cyclists to take part in their annual coast to coast bike ride on 4 and 5 June 2011.

This event will help to raise vital funds for the Lymphoma Association as well as to increase awareness about lymphoma, the UK’s fifth most commonly diagnosed cancer.

Alice Strudwick, director of fundraising for the Association says, “We rely totally on voluntary donations and sponsorship money raised by these events, so your support is crucial in helping us to provide our free information services including a freephone helpline, patient literature and a chatroom and messageboard to lymphatic cancer patients, their families, friends and carers.”

Riders will follow the official Sustrans route from Whitehaven to Sunderland, covering nearly 140 miles in two days. This challenging course is mainly off road, and will see riders face several steep uphill climbs.

The course travels through the northern Lake District with a famous climb up Hartside onto the unspoilt Northern Pennines – the roof of England. There then follows an undulating ride as the C2C meanders through old lead mining villages and down into the Durham Dales. From there it is an easy ride through one of Britain’s old industrial heartlands to the North Sea.

The registration fee starts from £115 per person which includes two nights’ shared accommodation, meals and refreshments, a free t-shirt and event support before and during the ride.

As a sponsored event, we also ask all participants to raise a minimum of £300 in sponsorship for the Lymphoma Association.
