by 1

It’s been a Singletrack Reader’s Choice winner for Best UK Mountain Bike Event six times and next year the ever popular Fort William UCI Downhill World Cup will celebrate its tenth anniversary. More details below:

Global stars on the mountain bike circuit are set to return to Scotland to celebrate the tenth birthday of the award-winning Fort William UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, which returns to the Highlands on the 4th and 5th June 2011.

To celebrate the return of the Downhill and 4 Cross (4X) contests to Fort William for the tenth consecutive year, organisers Rare Management have confirmed that this year’s festival of mountain biking will set new standards for an event that is already recognised as the best in the world.

There will be a strong challenge from UK riders on home soil as they look to build on this year’s success. The British men finished top in the Downhill World Cup circuit, led by Mountain Bike World Cup Champion and King of Fort William – Gee Atherton. Four other Brits also made the top 15, including Marc Beaumont (5th); Brendan Fairclough (9th); Steve Peat (11th) and Danny Hart (12th).

Reigning World Champion and four-times Fort William winner, Tracy Moseley, is looking forward to racing in the UCI Rainbow Jersey (worn by all cycling World Champions) at Fort William next year. Tracy and Rachel Atherton will be leading the battle with the French stars who are the dominant force on the women’s downhill circuit.

Such strength and depth will guarantee another big crowd determined to cheer their heroes on to more World Cup success. Last year’s Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup attracted more than 400 riders from 35 different countries and a record 18,000 spectators.

As host to rounds of the World Cup series since 2002, Fort William has established itself as one of the best international mountain bike competition venues in the world with a total of 22 awards, including 6 x Best UCI (International Cycling Union) World Cup Downhill Event, 5 x IMTTO (International Mountainbike Teams, Technical Support and Organisers) Best Mountain Bike Event in the World and 6 x Singletrack Magazine Best UK Mountain Bike Event.

There’s a special early bird ticket offer where fans can buy 2011 tickets at 2010 prices up before 31 December 2010.

Fans can also get their hands on an exclusive Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup Tenth Anniversary Calendar, which captures some of the greatest moments from the past decade. It is available now at HERE.
